Years earlier in Florida
"Kaia!, Kaia….KAIA!"
It was Leia screaming like a mad woman and knocking things over, she finally got to their room and found Kaia asleep, her tummy very obvious. She was in her eight month.
"We got admission, we get to go to school and we can start on monday, Clay offered to buy us what we need for a start, isnt that amazing?"
"You are crazy" Kaia said sleepily.
"What?"
"I said you are crazy, how do you expect me to go to school looking like a heifer about to explode"
"Oh" Leia had not thought of that. She was right.
"I'll start after this baby comes out"
"Good idea, anyway, Clay wants us to go out tonight, I may be home late"
"Go have fun, you need it"
"Will get you some ice cream"
"You better do"
Leia took a quick shower and put on a pretty floral dress, she had bought it for not more than 7 dollars. She brushed her long hair and held it together behind her in a ponytail and then she stepped out.
It had been weeks since she met Clay and the two had grown fond of each other, he showed her around town and introduced her to Florida all over again, this time she loved it. He took her to pretty places, showed her pretty things and one day he took her swimming. They had spent almost six hours in the pool teaching her how to swim. She picked it up fast and they were both so excited. They were obviously enjoying each others company.
She spotted Clay's car a few blocks away from their apartment building and she walked to it.
"Get in" He said with a smile and she did.
"You look amazing" He said.
"Thanks, what are we doing tonight?"
"I'm taking you somewhere nice""A new restaurant?"
"No, the theatre"
"Are we going to watch a movie?"
"More like a play"
"That sounds like fun" She was eager.
"Buckle up" He said and started the car as she fixed on her seatbelt.
That night with Clay was one she could never forget, they held hands throughout the entire play and at a point she felt tears stream down her face. Clay noticed and squeezed her hand gently.
She turned to him and smiled.
The story was about slavery and it was moving, she couldn’t help but recall her own story, she felt as if it was her story being acted out on that stage.
Clay noticed how much it affected her, he didn't expect so much tears then he made a decision to leave.
"Lets go" He said and she nodded. Still holding unto her hand.
Once they were out she continued to cry, even more harder. He embraced her and said nothing, when she was better they sat on a bench outside the theatre and then he said;
"I'm sorry, I didn't know it would affect you so much, I wouldn’t have…"
"Its okay, I actually loved it, I wish I could stay to the end" She smiled at him.
"Is there something you want to share?"
She shook her head and said no.
"Are you sure?" He asked again but she said nothing and then there were more tears and she said.
