Brian's POV

Fuck, I was pissed off. Sophie wasn't answering her phone and it pissed me off but didn't surprise me. Sophie was something else, the moment I'd layed eye's on her I was gone, there was something about her that caught my attention and I could not get her out of my head. Yeah sure I'd played it cool, flirting with her, teasing her, but whenever I was near her I was a mess, she messed me up, but in a good way.

I called her again.
Hi this is Sophie, leave your name and number, I'll call you back.

"Soph, it's me, again. I'm coming over at seven whether you like it or not." I hung up and threw my phone on the counter.

"What's up?" Matt asked, walking in.

"Sophie, she's ignoring me, again. I don't fucking get her." I looked at him.

"Yeah, Ana and her had a misunderstanding or something, I don't even know what, but Ana was banging on about it this morning. " He told me.

I nodded. "Yeah well, I'm just not sure when I should just give up." My phone interrupted me and I quickly picked it up, hoping it was Sophie.

"Hello. Brian, it's Sophie's Mom, Adelina." My heart stopped for a moment, had something happened to Sophie?

"Is Sophie okay?" I asked quickly.

"Oh, oh yes, sorry, she's fine, well I was calling because I was hoping you and I could have a talk, about Sophie."

Oh god, was she going to lecture me? "Um, I guess, now?"

"Well I was hoping you could come over now, if your not busy." She wanted me to come now.

"Okay." I said, but I must've sounded suspicious because she immediately reassured me. "It's okay Brian, I just think there are a few things you should know about my Sophie."

I agreed and hung up. "Her mom wants to see me." I told Matt.

"Shit." he said laughing.

I ignored him and went to my car. I thought about what Sophie's mom could possibly want to tell me, I had no idea.

She was waiting at the door when I arrived and we went inside, she got me a drink and we sat on the couch.

"Sorry about dragging you over here Brian, but I just thought you needed to know some thing's, because if I know Sophie, she's been giving you a hard time, and no doubt blaming it on me." I nodded, it sounded about right.  "So, I'll tell you Sophie's story, but don't interrupt me Brian, it's very hard to talk about, and I'm only telling you because I see the way she looks at you, even if she won't admit it to herself."

"Okay, I promise I won't interrupt." I was intrigued, I wanted to know Sophie's story.

"Good, so I don't know what she's told you, but my guess would be the basics, about her dad." I nodded. "Well what I'm going to tell you is what defines her as a person now, why she's the way she is." Oh boy, and wasn't she something. "Sophie was your typical girl growing up Brian, no different than any other, until she went to College. She excelled at College, actually she still excels at everything, oops I'm getting off track." I smiled at her, to let her know it was fine, anything I knew about Sophie was fine. "Anyway, in College she got a boyfriend, she was so in love with him, his name was Bradley. I liked seeing her so happy, in love, it was sweet. Sophie and Bradley moved in together and over time I noticed that she was getting moody and she always looked unhappy, she hardly ever came over anymore." I noticed that Adelina kept looking down and she looked sad. "Anyway one day Sophie came over for one of her rare visits, she was moody as usual, I'd gotten her a dress that I wanted her to try on and after a huge argument she'd finally agreed to. Well I walked in on her while she was getting changed, and what I saw, well she was covered in bruises, strategically placed bruises, in places that no one could see." I felt sick, thinking about it. "Sophie yelled and screamed at me but eventually broke down, Bradley had been hitting her pretty regularly and she was so ashamed, it broke my heart." She wiped her face, she was crying. "Anyway, I managed to convince her to leave, to get her stuff right then while he was at work and she agreed. She left and I waited for her, but one hour turned into four hours and I was worried so I drove to their place, I was so glad I did. Just give me a minute." She got up and left the room and I sat there shocked, thinking about Sophie and what had happened.

Adelina walked back in and sat down, she had something in her hand. "Anyway Brian I got there and I had to climb through a window because no one answered the door, and what I found, well." She handed me some photos, but I really didn't want to look at them, I already had an idea what they were. I glanced down at the photo's quickly and what I saw turned my stomach, they were pictures of Sophie, taken in hospital.  "He beat her so bad that she was unconscious for 6 days. Brian please don't ever mention those photo's, she doesn't know they exist." I nodded and looked at them again and put my hand over my eye's, god, who would do this? "So anyway Brian, Sophie either doesn't remember what happened or she chooses not too remember, I'm really not sure which one it is, but I wanted you to understand why she'll continually push you away. She's scared. There have been other guys but she's pushed them until they gave up. I just don't want you to give up on her."

I shook my head, I sure as hell wasn't planning on giving up.

"I just see her look at you, she likes you, alot, so just persist alright?"

"I plan too." I told her "What about this Bradley?" I was curious.

"He's in jail, I really hope he stays there forever." I nodded in agreement.  "My Sophie is a very special girl Brian, she's been through alot, please look after her." she hugged me.

"Oh I will, don't worry about that."

When I left I was in shock, I couldn't believe it. It was alot for a guy to deal with, especially me, I mean I wasn't exactly a commitment kind of guy, and what Adelina told me made me think twice, but then I thought about Sophie and I knew I'd found the girl that I could really see myself committing too, I just had to convince her.

I drove straight to her house.
