"Up! Up now!" Gobby yelled in her high pitched voice as she jumped on Kyle in an attempt to wake him up. Though, he was already up after her first jump as she was half the size of him and he felt his stomach implode as her feet hit it.
"I'm up!" Kyle wheezed as loudly as he could, attempting to shove his familiar of of him before he slowly rolled out of bed. He'd stayed up late last night in making his plans for the day as well as training himself more. Thankfully, it seemed that his summoning talents were somehow rather strong compared to other people, however he knew better then to stop there. Even if he could defend himself now, such a thing would only attract the attention of even stronger people. So it was Kyle's current goal to find a proper medium so that he still wouldn't be challenged, but would be passed over by anyone who as really strong as well.
"Letter!" Someone suddenly yelled from the other side of the door, causing Gobby to growl slightly as a piece of paper was slid underneath the door that led into the hallway. And with a curiosity getting the better of him, Kyle walked over to the door and smiled when he recognized the hand writing on the outside of the envelope. It was that of his mother's, and his happiness suddenly ended as he grew slightly worried as he looked at the paper. He'd promised to send her a letter on his first day of reaching the guild, which he hadn't, and now on the third day...
"Hey Gobby, could you open this please?" Kyle asked his familiar, who gave him a confused look.
"Why?" Gobby asked.
"Because it might be enchanted with a explosion mine." Kyle laughed slightly. Knowing his mother, he wouldn't put it past her to magically trap letters if she knew that the person involved would live through the blast.
"No!" Gobby replied immediately, and Kyle sighed to himself as he'd expected that answer. And so, while holding the letter as far away from himself as he could, Kyle carefully ripped open the top of the envelope. And surprisingly, nothing happened, which he thought was very odd. Then again, his mother knew that he hadn't had a class for very long, so perhaps she was being merciful with him at least until he-
"Ahhhhhh!" Kyle let out an involuntary scream as he reached inside of the envelope to withdraw the letter. As soon as his hand had touched the letter, electricity immediately started coursing up his arm until his spread throughout his entire body, knocking him down and making his body convulse until the spell thankfully ran out of power and Kyle's entire body felt numb. Small puffs of smoke were emitted at several places of his body before Kyle snapped out of his stupor and sat up from the floor with a groan.
"That crazy woman!" Kyle complained, reluctantly reaching out to take the envelope before reading the letter.
'Dear Kyle,
By the time you read this, I hope that you will have learned your lesson in that disobeying my directions has consequences. But as the memory is still fresh in your mind, I will get to the point. Make sure to train well at the Summoner Guild, because if you haven't forgotten, the Grandell Family Event is only three months away. Just as always, you will not be excused from the event, however this year people will be expecting you to preform and compete with us. Please prepare to show all of those people who thought that you were a failure before that you are in fact a Grandell, and that any such talk will possibly bring their lives to an unexpected end.
Your loving mother: Aguth.'
"Remind me who's supposed to be the dark lord candidate here?" Kyle asked in misery as he dropped the letter to the ground. He'd completely forgotten about his family's event that would be starting soon, it being a massive battle royal that involved every parent and sibling to participate that all of Krunnel treated as a festival. He'd been forced to take part in it ever since he was ten years old, and seeing as he was classless until now, it ment that he was dodging axes, fire, swords and lighting as just an ordinary person while his insane family laughed maniacally at his attempts to escape harm. Thankfully there were healers there that would give him bandages and stitches if he needed them, but the events had always been a horrible experience to Kyle. Could he really be ready to face his family as an equal in only three months? Sure, he had made remarkable progress from what he had been before, but his little goblins and gremlins wouldn't stand a chance against any of his family members. They were all complete monsters and could possibly destroy the kingdom just by themselves as far as Kyle knew. Though as he thought about it, he wondered if the guild would even allow him some time off to return home.
Looking out of the window, Kyle's thoughts suddenly ended as the facility's bell started ringing, causing him to panic as he wasn't at all prepared. Of course, thinking about it now, there was no reason that Gobby would have woken him up unless he's missed her breakfast. And he silently cursed himself for staying up so late the previous night before he finally donned both his robes and boots on before running out of the room in a hurry.
By the time Kyle exited the dorms, he knew that he was already late as he ran past the other students on his way to the classroom. Surprisingly, there were a lot of people speaking happily with each other in the halls, and Kyle started to wonder if class really was happening at all before he finally reached his classroom to find that only about half of the students were there, and those that were present were already sleeping.
"Ah, Mr. Grandell, I was just about to mark you absent." Guisen said with a smile. "Please do arrive earlier from now on. Those who are absent are punished by pushing mine carts laden with metal ore through the dungeon."
"Y-yeah, sorry." Kyle replied with his tone full of relief, knowing that the dungeons were most likely filled with monsters.
"It's quite alright if you learn from it. However, for the others that haven't appeared, I don't believe that the punishment will be enough." Guisen said in a mischievous tone. "Regardless! Everyone please stand and we'll begin today's oath!"
Despite a mass collection of sighs, everyone woke from their stupors before standing at their desks, ready to recite the oath as Kyle moved behind his desk. And after catching Livana looking at him curiously, Kyle winked once in her direction with a smile, causing her to roll her eyes at him before they all prepared to preform the oath. Well, the rest of his class did anyway. Kyle was about to preform his own version, and it was one that he hoped would no longer have him risking his mind every morning.
"You all know it, so please say the oath proudly!" Guisen instructed, and all of the students all said the oath together with Kyle included.
"I hereby declare that I will aide both my guild and my guild-mates should disaster fall. To fight for and protect what is dear to me, and also to crush anything that gets in my way! To do whatever I please while not forgoing my original purpose as a summoner. Without rest, I will rise to the top! And when I finally reach the pinnacle, I will become perfection. I will become the next dark lord!" The class all announced together.
"I will become the next dark lord's general!" Kyle stated proudly, thoroughly pleased with his idea at just changing the chant slightly while everyone else preformed the normal one. With this the spell would be nullified, and best of all, no one here would see him as a rival anymore after this. He would finally be safe from both challengers as well as bullying. Or at least, that's what he'd thought...
