"I'm here!" Kyle panted as he finally reached the church, and he was glad to see that the men in black robes were still there. The black robes were actually the uniform of the Summoner Guild, and even their apprentices were forced to wear them.
"And you are?" The man who was sitting at a desk that they'd set up asked in a hoarse voice.
"Kyle. Kyle Grandell." Kyle answered. "I'm here to apply to be a summoner!"
"Kid, if you're mocking us then you'll regret it." The man replied, and Kyle grew confused before his peripheral vision spotted his reflection in the nearby church's window, and he only now realized that he still hadn't washed the drawings that had been on his face.
"If you want to be a beast man, then I recommend that you try reincarnation, lad. It's the only way." The other man in robes said in a voice that almost seemed to purr, and Kyle soon found out why as the man pulled back his hood to reveal that he was a beast man himself. Or rather a cat man with all of the facial features of a cat, which most likely ment that the man was one of the rare purebred beast men as most seemed more human than beast.
"I'm sorry, I meant no disrespect by it! It was only a prank that was played on me!" Kyle apologized, and the cat man simply smiled at him before gesturing towards the table.
"If I took offence to every joke made about my race, I would have killed half of the kingdom's population by now." The cat man laughed. "But you're in luck, we were just about to pack everything up, but you're just in time."
"T-thank you!" Kyle beamed a smile at the man for being so nice before he headed towards the table where he felt the other man glaring at him from behind the his hood.
"You had one of our pamphlets, yes?" The man at the table asked with a tone that almost sounded like he was impatient.
"Yes, I did." Kyle nodded needlessly as he confirmed the man's question.
"Then it's the same process. Think about what you want to create, gather your focus and magic on your hands and touch the table when you're ready." The man instructed, and Kyle took a deep breath before closing his eyes and concentrating on what he wanted. Or at least, what he thought that he wanted. Of course, every beginning summoner wanted to summon dragons or other powerful monsters, and while Kyle did want to be strong, he didn't want to risk overstepping what he could do when he still hadn't been able to summon anything yet. Right now, he'd be content if he could just summon a beetle, much less a legendary creature. Though strangely, when Kyle gathered his focus on his hands and put them on the table, his mind shifted to the dream that he'd had that night. He thought of the small humanoid creature he'd seen silhouetted in the moonlight cast through his bedroom window. And when he had that thought, Kyle heard another popping sound in front of him, and he clenched his eyes and prayed that he hadn't just released a stink bomb in his examiner's face. This had to work, it just had to. Otherwise he was doomed to a life of nothing but dumb labor and humiliation for being the Grandell family's failure.
"Hmm... interesting." The man said inquisitively, and Kyle was only hoping that the man wasn't talking about his ability to only summon smells. "Darkness element with humanoid form? It's quite a rare form you have there, boy."
"S-sorry!" Kyle opened his eyes to apologize for the smell before he stared dumbstruck at the figure standing on the table in front of him. It had dark brown skin with a wisps of white hair placed directly on top of it's otherwise bald head. Two expressly long and pointed ears rose above it's head before falling down to it's waist behind it's back which remained bare. Just like Kyle's dream, this creature was dressed only in a loincloth and had a club as a weapon, though it didn't seem primitive at all thanks to the hidden cunning that Kyle could see behind it's large black eyes. "A goblin?"
