Dated 2-May-1998

Session #4, Patient #3824, interviewed by David MacPherson, M.D.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

[Doctor] Thank you for taking the time to join me – I trust the office wasn’t too hard to find?

[3824] No. I’ve been here before – well, not to this office specifically, but this facility.

[Doctor] So I see… and I’m sure you’re confused as to why I called you back in.

[3824] No, I have a pretty good idea, doctor. But I don’t know what I’d be able to tell you that I haven’t already told the police.

[Doctor] Oh, no. It’s not about him. It’s actually about your parents.

[3824] My parents? Why? You already know what happened to them.

[Doctor] Yes, but there were a few details that came to light that I wouldn’t mind hearing your perspective on – if that’s okay with you, that is…

[3824] I don’t… w-what details?

[Doctor] Well… is it okay if we discuss your parents?

[3824] What details?

[Doctor] I’ll take that as a yes… You see, I want to ask you about your mother’s doll collection.

[3824] Oh? What… what about it?

[Doctor] I hear she had the most exquisite collection of fine, porcelain dolls. Is that true?

[3824] Yes. But I don’t see –

[Doctor] It’s okay, I’ll get to that in a second. I just wanted to ask a few questions about these dolls – and about your mother’s… ‘preoccupation’ with them…

[3824] Alright, I guess. I was really young; I don’t really remember much about it.

[Doctor] Yes, but you remember your mother, don’t you?

[3824] Of course.

[Doctor] And you remember how she’d get sometimes, right?

[3824] …of course…

[Doctor] When she’d get angry, do you ever remember her locking herself in with the dolls?

[3824] How do you –

[Doctor] Just answer the questions, please. I’ll get to all of that in a moment. Just… when she would go into the doll room, what would she do?

[3824] She’d… I don’t know. I was just a kid and I never went in there when she was like that. But I think she’d take all the clothes off the dolls and wash them – the dolls, I mean, not the clothes. She’d wipe down the porcelain with something.

[Doctor] Something? Like what? Like a cleaner?

[3824] Yeah… rubbing alcohol or bleach or something.

[Doctor] Go on.

[3824] Well, that’s it, I guess. She’d go in there and clean the dolls.

[Doctor] I’m going to ask you a few questions about your mother’s mood. Is that alright?

[3824] Yeah, which one? She had a lot of moods…

[Doctor] Which one did you find to be the most… how shall we say…
