Yvonne's POV
"I've missed you guys so much!" Mother hugs Alex and I tightly.
That word 'tightly' shouldn't be taken lightly in this context.
"Mom. Can't. Breathe." I gasp.
"Need. Oxygen." Alex struggles.
Probably noticing that she might end up murdering her own children due to too much affection, she lets go, grinning widely at the both of us and her sparkling white teeth shines forth.
Alyssa and Dallas come out of the house as well, walking out to the front porch and then to the driveway where we are right now. My mom, on seeing Alyssa, smiles and walks over, giving her a light hug.
"I hope they behaved themselves. Yvonne and Alex have never been a wonderful duo. "
I try to resist the tempting urge to roll my eyes even though I know Mom is kind of right but, sadly, I fail.
"They didn't disturb. Well not too much." Alyssa glances at me, her eyes making me understand that I'm safe.
"Okay, that's fine then." Mom says, looking at us adoringly.
I cock my head to the side and narrow my eyes in thought. She's never been like this. Granted, our parents travel. A lot. And whenever they come back Mom doesn't behave all... well... Motherly. Alex and I already take it as a routine for them to travel for long periods of time. So what's her deal right now? Something must be up. I'm sure of it.
"Let's go. We have a lot of catching up to do. And Yvonne," she glances at me mischievously. "You can tell me all about your little romance stories."
I groan. "Mom. I don't have that." Glancing around, I spot Dallas and smile immediately, watching him say something to Alex in that Big brother-ish-ly kind of way.
I can't believe I have just indirectly sibling-zoned him.
He locks gazes with me and smiles as well. A small but sufficient smile. Slowly bringing my hand up, I wave. He pushes his glasses further towards the bridge of his nose with his index finger and waves back.
I mouth Goodbye Geeky and I'm pretty sure he's resisting the urge to raise his middle finger at my direction.
Talk about a non-romantic romcom right there.
"Suurree." She drawls deliberately. It's as though Mom's voice breaks me out of a temporary hypnosis and I snap my head to look at her, taking a second to decipher whether an alive human just spoke to me. What were we talking about again?
God you're whipped.
I don't think I need to explain who just said that.
"Where's Dad by the way?" Alex asks as we get in Dad's Grey Ford, parked neatly behind Alyssa's car. I glance around. I can't see him anywhere either.
As our driver chucks the luggage into the car, I notice Mom's countenance change a bit on hearing Alex. It's fascinating how I easily know the tiniest things about her just by looking at her. Guess it's perks of uncanny resemblance. Anyway, she keeps a poker face and answers, "He's in a meeting."
Without looking us in the eye, she takes out her phone and doodles away. I scoff. And I'm supposed to be the typical teenage girl in the family.
"Oh..." Alex mutters. Slowly, as we finally leave Dallas' house.
I look back through the glass and he's still there, even though his Mom has gone inside already. He just watches us until we are out of sight, hands deep in his pockets.
