I sit next to my passed out mom with Wilmer beside me. Please let her be okay... I think as I hear the sirens come closer to where we are.

Mom is barely breathing, but she's going to make it, I think, or she better. Wilmer hugs me tight and whispers, "she'll be okay."

The paramedics rush to where we are and lift Mom up onto a stretcher. "Immediate family can ride in the ambulance," a paramedic says.

I shake my head. No way, am I leaving without Wilmer by my side.

The ambulance rushes off with its sirens blaring loudly, cars moving out of the way. I see a single tear roll down Wilmer's face as she pulls away.

The policeman rushes up from his car, "Where's the man who did this?" he asks.

I look around to see that James is gone.

"He ran," Wilmer replies walking a few steps away to give the police some information.

I break town in tears and roll up into a ball on the grass. I need my mom; without her, I'm nothing. I sniffle but slow my tears as Wilmer places his hand on my shoulder. I know he's not used to this dad thing, but I'm glad that he's at least trying.

Wilmer picks me up and carries me into his car, then drives to the hospital to meet Demi.

I hope she's alright...
