I jump back in shock at Demi's words. Does she really think that she's hopeless, a lost cause? I would never give up on her.
"Please Demi!" I practically yell, trying to be heard over her ear piercing screams.
"NOO!" she screams again.
"We're going to have to sedate her," the nurse says, drawing a needle.
"Please, no," I plead, stopping the nurse in her tracks. I reach out and grab Demi's hand which is still attached to her bed. She looks up at me, her eyes full of pain and exhaustion. "I know that melody," she states, continuing the song through her own humming for a few lines, "thank you."
I nod and release her hand from mine. Then her whole face lights up, she sees it.
"I know you," she says excitedly, "I actually know you! And Jasmine... where is she?"
I smile as the nurse brings a half-asleep Jasmine into the room.
"Mom!" Jasmine exclaims when she sees the recognition in Demi's face.
Demi just smiles at her daughter lovingly, "I'd never forget you," Demi says.
The nurse unties Demi's hands from her bed and backs out of the room to give us some family time. I am so glad that everything has come together. This is more than I ever could have hoped for...
