After I got home for the night, I got a call from George.
"Hey George." I smiled to myself.
"Hey Lara."
"What's up?"
"Not much. Uh, I was hoping we could plan for our next date." he said.
"Okay. I'm not available this weekend, but I am next weekend and next Friday."
"Why aren't you available this weekend?"
"I'm going to see my mom this weekend."
"Oh, that's great."
"Yeah, I get to see my dogs. But anyway, what would you like to do?"
"I was thinking you could decide." he chuckled.
"Um... how about we take a walk on the beach?" I suggested.
"That sounds like fun."
"Okay, great. How about Friday?"
"Next Friday? Yeah, that'll be great."
"Okay, next Friday. How about the time?"
"Why don't we have lunch then go over there at about two-ish?"
"Okay, that's perfect. I'm paying this time though." he laughed.
"Okay, you got yourself a deal."
"Alright, great! I'll talk to you later, Lara. Let me know how your visit with your mom goes."
"Okay, I will. I have to pack for my visit with mom anyway. Bye, George."
He hung up first, and I put my phone down on the table.
I grabbed my overnight bag and stuck a couple days worth of clothes in there, I grabbed my toothbrush and toothpaste, shampoo and body wash and my face wash, then I put the dog toys in that I got for them.
"Okay, I think that's everything." I said to myself.
After I was finished, I decided to turn in for the night.
****
After I woke up, I took a shower and changed into some decent clothes, then I headed out to see my mom. I stopped at a gas station to get a quick breakfast, then I started driving to La Conner, which is sixty-seven point two miles, and it takes an hour and eighteen minutes to get there. I ended up getting stuck in traffic, and I put my head down on the steering wheel.
"Oh my god, are you kidding me? I have places to be." I sighed.
While I was sitting there, my mom called me on my cellphone.
"Hello?"
"Lara, where are you?"
"I'm still in Seattle, mom. Got stuck in traffic." I told her.
"Take a different route." she told me.
I took a u-turn and went around all the traffic, even though it took me a little longer. I hung up on mom so I could drive.
**** (sorry another time skip)
After I got to my mom's, the first thing I did was hug her, then I went to greet my dogs.
"Carla, Zach!"
As soon as I called their names, they came running down the stairs and both crashed into me.
"Aw, hey guys."
"They're very happy to see you."
"I missed them too. I wish I could take them with me." I sighed.
"Me too, but I like having them around. They keep me busy."
"I know." I smiled.
Mom and I went outside so we could talk and catch up.
"Well, Alex told me something interesting the last time he called me."
Oh boy, here we go...
"What did he say?" I asked.
"He told me you're dating one of your coworkers now." she said.
"Yeah, I am. His name's George." I told her.
"Why didn't you tell me before, Lara?"
"I don't know. I guess I never thought about it." I shrugged.
"Never thought about telling your own mother? Lara Jane Karev, I am hurt."
Mom put her hand over her chest.
"I'm sorry, mom."
I smiled and put my hand over hers.
"Why don't you tell me more about George?"
"He's a doctor too, a general surgeon. He's one of the kindest people I've ever met. We met during med school..."
I told mom basically everything that I know about George, and she sounded pretty impressed after I was finished.
"He sounds like a great guy, Lara. You'll have to bring him over sometime."
"I will, mom... one of these days." I said. She put her hand over mine and squeezed gently.
