After I got out of the room, I was stopped by Lexie.
"George, can I talk to you?" she asked.
"What is it now, Lexie?"
"It's actually important this time. Come here."
She grabbed me by the hand and led me to another room, then she closed the door.
I leaned up against the wall, crossed my arms, and looked at her.
"Okay, here goes. After we had sex, I found out I was pregnant a few weeks later."
"Are you saying I got you pregnant? Why didn't you tell me?"
"I was afraid. I wasn't sure how you'd react."
"It's okay, Lexie. Where's the baby now?" I asked.
"I lost it after the first few months. I didn't tell anyone, and I think it happened because of all the stress from school."
"I'm so sorry, Lexie."
I hugged her tight.
"It's okay. I would've gotten an abortion anyway." she sighed.
"What?"
"I wasn't going to keep a baby that I didn't want, George."
"You could've had your baby adopted."
"And have to carry it around for nine months? No thank you."
"Lexie... I would've kept the baby."
"No. Neither of us would've had time for a baby, George. I can't put you through that." she shook her head.
"I wish you would've told me. We could've figured something out."
"No, George. I didn't want anyone to know."
"Not even me?" I asked.
"Not even you, but it doesn't matter now." she shook her head.
"Of course it matters, Lexie. You were pregnant with what would've been my child."
"But it wasn't supposed to happen! I never wanted a baby."
"I'm sorry, it's my fault."
"No, it's mine, but I don't want to talk about it anymore."
I walked out of the room before she did, and Lara was standing across the hallway.
"Hey Lara. How much of that did you hear?"
-Lara's POV-
"You got Lexie pregnant?" I said quietly.
"I had no idea! She just told me."
"Does she still have the baby?"
"No. She lost it after the first few months."
George sighed and brushed his hair back from his eyes.
"Oh..."
"It's okay, though. She never wanted a baby."
"Maybe it was for the better." I shrugged.
"What? How could you say that, Lara? She lost a baby."
"A baby that she didn't want in the first place."
"Yeah, that's true. Maybe it was for the better." he said.
"It doesn't matter now, George. You have me."
I rubbed the back of his head and ran my fingers through his hair.
"Yeah, you're right." he agreed.
I was paged by Dr. Shepherd, and I left to go see what he wanted, but George grabbed me by the hand.
"Wait a minute." he said.
"What is it?"
I turned back and look at him.
"Uh, when do you want to go out again?"
"George, I don't have time for this! I have to get to Dr. Shepherd."
"Alright. We'll talk about this later."
"Yes! I have to go."
I walked to the left wing of the hospital, and Dr. Shepherd was standing in the hallway by one of the gynecology rooms.
"Dr. Shepherd, what are you doing in the gynecology wing?" I asked.
"Nurse Wendy just had her baby." he smiled.
Wendy is one of my best friends. We've been friends since the third grade, and we went to med school together too.
"Oh, really? That is so exciting."
"Yeah, and she asked for you. She wants you to see the baby." he smiled softly.
I walked into the room where Wendy was located, and she was holding a baby wrapped in a pink blanket.
"Hey Wendy."
I quietly closed the door behind me.
"Hey, Lara."
"How are you feeling?"
I sat on a chair by her bed.
"Tired. Delivery was rough, but it was all worth it."
She showed me her baby, and she is an absolute angel.
She had a little bit of reddish peach fuzz on her head, and the brightest blue eyes I've ever seen.
"Wow, she's beautiful. She looks just like you." I smiled.
"I think she looks more like her dad."
"What's her name?" I asked.
"Louise Alexandra."
"A beautiful name."
"Would you like to hold her?"
Wendy offered her baby to me.
"Sure."
I washed my hands so I could hold her, and she handed her over to me.
"Hello, little one." I chuckled. I rocked her back and forth, and she fell asleep on me.
"Here you go, momma."
I handed the baby back to Wendy, then I left her alone so she could rest.
