After I woke up the next morning, I went downstairs and mom made me breakfast, just like old times. I sat down on the other side of the table, and I decided to talk to her about my other siblings, Aaron and Amber.
"So, have you heard from Amber or Aaron lately?"
"I saw Amber just last week, but Aaron... no, I haven't seen him." she hesitated.
"Mom, is something wrong?" I asked.
"No, it's just that... no one has brought Aaron up for quite some time now."
"Did something happen to him?"
"They found out he has schizophrenia, Lara. He's in a mental facility just outside of town." she told me.
"Oh my God, are you serious? How come no one's told me this?"
"We didn't want you to be scared, Lara-Bear."
"I'm a surgeon, nothing really scares or surprises me anymore." I sighed.
"I'm sorry." she sighed as well.
"Where is he at? I'd like to go see him."
"You don't want to do that." she shook her head.
"Yes, I do. I miss my brother. I haven't seen him since I moved."
"But he's not the same Aaron you used to know, Lara."
"It doesn't matter. I'd still like to see him."
"Okay, why don't we go together? After breakfast, we can pay him a visit."
After breakfast, mom and I got ready for the day, then she drove me to the Garrett-Martin mental health facility just outside of La Conner.
"Hello, how can I help you?" the lady at the front desk asked.
"We'd like to see Aaron Evans." Mom told her.
"Are you family?"
"Yes, I'm his mother. This is his sister."
She gestured to me.
The lady showed us to Aaron's room and opened the door, and we all walked inside.
"Aaron, your mom and sister are here to see you." she told him.
He looked up at both of us and smiled.
"Hey Lara."
I was the first one he greeted, and he walked up to me and hugged me.
"H-hey Aaron. It's good to see you."
I hugged him and patted him on the back.
He hugged my mom next, and she gingerly hugged him back.
"How have you been?" she asked.
"Oh, just fine." he smiled.
"Been taking your pills and things like you should?"
"Yes, mother." he rolled his eyes.
"Good."
I sat down in front of Aaron, and he looked at me.
"Mom never told you I was in here, did she?" he asked.
"Not until today, when I asked about you. Have you seen or heard from Amber lately?"
"She comes by every couple of weeks. She's got a boyfriend now. She told me she's really happy with the guy." he said.
"Oh, that's great."
"Told me she might be pregnant when she last came around."
"Oh, really? Is she excited?" I asked.
"She's nervous, but I think she'll make a good mom."
"Me too. She was always the maternal type."
Amber's the oldest out of all of us, then it's Alex, Aaron, and then me. Amber cared for me the most because I was always being picked on by my brothers and everybody else.
"Yeah."
"I... kind of have a boyfriend now too." I admitted.
"Oh, really? Who is it?"
"You remember George, right?"
"Yeah. You and him became real close when you went to med school, right?"
"Yes. He's a great guy, Aaron. You'd like him." I smiled.
"I'm sure I will, sis." he put his hand over mine.
