Chapter Thirty-Two

*A Few Weeks Later*
I finally moved into my new place, and I'm having the housewarming party. I still have to unpack a few things, but I'll be settled in pretty soon.
My mom was one of the first people to arrive, and she brought my dogs, of course.
"Hey, Lara. Your new place is great!" she exclaimed.
"I know, I'm so glad I brought. Now I get to have my fur babies home with me."
"I'll miss them. They kept me busy, and they were fun to have around."
"I'm sure you'll think of something."
I looked at her, and she had a little smile on her face. I heard a knock on the door, so I got up to answer it, and George was standing there with a gift in his hands.
"George, you didn't have to get me anything." I chuckled softly.
I kissed him after he handed me the gift, and I just putit on the coffee table for now. My mom got up to introduce herself.
"George, it's nice to finally meet you. I'm Lara's mom, Serena."
"It's nice to meet you too."
He smiled and shook her hand firmly, then he bent down and kissed her hand.
"You've got quite a keeper on your hands."
Mom looked at me.
"I know."
As we were waiting for everyone else to show up, George played with the dogs and mom and I talked about things. I told her about my birthday, but I skipped the part where my dad showed up. I think she still believes that what everyone says he did is true.
"Are you going to tell her about your dad?" George whispered in my ear.
"Maybe another time."
"What was that?"
"Nothing."
The doorbell decided to ring right on time.
I answered the door, and a few of my friends from work showed up.

After the party was over, George stayed the night so I could get used to the transition of being in a new place. He started doing something he's never done for me before... he started singing to me. I recognized the song... Say You Won't Let Go by James Arthur.

I fell asleep shortly after that.
