Chapter Seven

Shailene POV:

Theo and I are at the grocery store.
"Crap. I forgot to get the strawberries and the raspberries." I say.
"You stay here. I'll get them." Theo says.
I peck him on the lips.
He smiles and walks away.
I look around for the bow tie pasta.
It's on the top shelf.
I stand on my tippy toes to get it.
"Here. I got it." A male voice says.
I turn around.
"Derrick?" I ask.
"Shailene." He says.
"Thank you."
I put the pasta into the shopping cart.
"You're pregnant?" Derrick asks.
I nod.
"One more chance. Just one. And this would have been our babies." He says.
"Well they are not." I reply.
"Shailene please. I'm sorry."
"Even if I forgave you. Even if I said I forgave you, it wouldn't change a thing."
Tears begin to well in my eyes.
"It wouldn't change a thing between you and me." I say.
"Leave him. For me. The babies aren't for me but I will take care of them. Treat them as if they were my own." Derrick says putting his hand on my face.
"Why Derrick? So you can leave me again? So you can screw two other women?" I ask.
"I love you. Please."
"Derrick I--"
He kisses me.
I push him off.
"Derrick. No. This is not how you will get me. I don't love you and that kiss never happened. And you will not get me to leave Theo." I say.
"The guy doesn't deserve you."
"You're one to talk."
Theo walks back.
"Hey. Is he bothering you?" Theo asks.
"No. As a matter of fact, he was just leaving." I say.
I turn my face so I can wipe my tears.
Derrick looks at me and then walks away. But before he leaves.
"I will have you." He whispers then he leaves.
"Are you okay, Shai?" Theo asks me.
"Yea. I'm fine. Let's forget this ever happened." I say.
He nods and we continue through the aisle.
Derrick's words leave me in fear.
And something tells me it will have to do with Ruth.
