Chapter 10

Shailene POV:

"Alright Shailene. It's your last time to answer the question." Ruth says.
She pulls out a gun.
"What's your choice?" She asks smirking.
"Take Theo." I say barely audible.
"What was that?"
"Take Theo."
"Smart woman. See Derrick? What did I say?"
Derrick smiles devilishly.
"Take her out of here. I'm going to my Theo."
Tears slide down my face.
Derrick helps me up and walks me out.
"See Shai? Now we can be together." Derrick says.
"I hate you. I will never love you."
I walk to a pay phone and call Zoë.
"Hello?" A male voice answers.
Ansel.
"Ansel please come for me. I'm on Collins Avenue." I say.
Derrick takes the phone from me and hangs up.
"You are not leaving me." He says.
"Yes I am."
Derrick grabs me and I scream.
"Shailene!" A voice shouts.
It's Ansel's.
He pulls Derrick off of me and punches him.
They fight.
Ansel wins and he hugs me.
I cry into his chest.
"Ansel! Where did you go?!" Zoë yells.
She looks at me.
"Shailene! What happened?!"
"My babies are fatherless."
"What did Theo do?! I'm going to kick his ass."
"No Ruth said if I didn't give Theo to her she would kill the babies."
"Oh my goodness!"
Ansel gets in the car and rolls down the window.
"Ansel what are you doing?" I ask.
"To Theo. We are not letting her get to him that easy."
I hear water.
"Shailene, did you just pee on yourself?" Ansel asks me.
"No, I think my water just broke."
I feel contractions and I scream.
"In the car now." Zoë yells.
I walk into the car.
"Move the car! Move the car!" I yell.
"Take deep breaths Shai!"
I scream.
"Hey Theo! Get your ass to the hospital. You're going to be a father." Ansel yells into his phone and he hangs up.
