Chapter 19

Theo POV:

"Shai? Are you okay?" I ask her from the other side of the door.
She's in the bedroom and she's locked herself in there.
She sniffles.
"Yea. I'm fine. I just need sometime. I'm going to see Violetta," she says.
She opens the door and runs past me.
I sigh.

Shailene POV:

I drive to Violetta's apartment.
I knock on her door and Ansel answers.
"Ansel?" I ask.
"Yea. Vi! I think we should rain check our date tonight!" He yells.
She walks down the hall and she sees me.
She pulls me into a hug.
After a while, we sit on the couch.
"And I told him he should take it, now I'm not sure if I told him to do the right thing," I say.
I realize what I said and I burst into tears.
"I sound so selfish," I sob.
Ansel and Violetta comfort me.
"It's okay Shailene. You are going to miss him and that's okay. You told him to go and that's the bravest thing you have done," Violetta says.
I hear a knock at the door an Ansel walks away.
"Where's Shai?"
Theo.
"Ansel. This isn't time for jokes."
Ansel is buying me time to ready myself.
I wipe my face and put on a small smile.
"I'm back here!" I sing.
Violetta laughs and I laugh with her.
"Shailene. Oh thank God, you're okay. I've been calling you. Why haven't you answer?" Theo asks.
"Oops. My phone was on silent," I say.
"Violetta can we have a moment?"
She nods and walks to Ansel.
"Shai. I don't want to leave if you don't want me to," Theo says.
"Theo. It's okay. I'll be fine," I say.
"Shailene."
"Theodore."
He cups my face with his hand.
"I can stay," he says.
I kiss him.
"Theo. I know you're worried about me and the boys. But I'll be fine. It's okay," I say.
His phone begins ringing.
"Hello?" Theo asks. "My decision?"
He puts Paul on hold.
"You'll be back before you know it," I say sniffling.
Theo kisses my forehead.
