The vault was dimly lit by broken lights and fire barrels, causing a smoky smell to hang in the air.
Our squad and Winlock's road the dodgy elevator down into the main section of the vault. Cruz volunteered to watch the entrance with his squadron, which was a good thing because I could tell Winlock had intended that position to us.
When the oddly pleasant ding sound and the doors slid open Winlock immediately took charge, barking orders at all of us.
We were in a long hallway and apparently the main atrium was a left turn at the end of the hall. My guess that's where most of the raiders will be and I was keen for a large shootout.
However, Winlock had other ideas and my squad and Riley's Assultron were now walking down a long hallway towards the residential sector.
MacCready lead the way, scanning every doorway we pasted. Mitch, Adam and Clair followed the Sargent, Riley walked with the Assultron by her side, while Shane and I held up the rear.
Well this wasn't the shootout I was hoping for but at least I didn't have to listen to Winlock's annoying voice any more.
Shane's voice broke the tense atmosphere, the blonde was eyeing down the Assultron walking beside Riley.
"Hey Riley."
"What is it Shane?" I could practically here the eye roll in her voice.
"Can I name that robot friend of yours?"
The mechanic turn her head to face us, confusion framing her features.
"Cause I think DeathTrap would be a kick ass name. You know what that's it!" The excitement in his voice was evident. "Then I can call it DT for short."
Riley just rolled her eyes, "you do realise it won't respond to whatever you decide to call it."
The blonde just ignored her comment and I couldn't help but laugh when he occasionally called out DeathTrap without getting a response from the robot.
The guy is an idiot but I have to agree that DeathTrap is a pretty cool name.
We reached the end of the hall and a staircase descended to the residential area. MacCready stopped us, placing his finger to his lips, motioning us to be quite.
Muffled chatter quietly echoed from the staircase, indicating we'd found our first batch of raiders.
I was still debating who this gang of raiders belonged to but if it wasn't my gang I would be happy to get some shots out.
I double checked my weapon as the group discussed the plan of attack.
"I say we send in the robot and cover it from behind." Mitch stated in a hushed tone.
"Hell yeh, DeathTrap will kick their asses." Shane almost yelled, clapping his hands in agreement. The loud sound echoed off the walls and we all glared at the idiot.
I cringed when a tense voice was heard and the chatter died off. "Whoa, whoa. Shut the fuck up for a second. I think I heard something."
I pinched the bridge of my nose and Clair voiced my exact thoughts, "So much for a surprise attack, Shane!"
The blonde racked a hand down his face, his eyes landing on DT. "C'mon DeathTrap, let's kill these bastards."
The sound of foot steps grew louder from the bottom of the staircase and the red light on the robot's face stared blankly back at Shane.
Riley scoffed at the blonde, turned towards DT and strongly stated, "Assultron class combat robot initiate direct combat mode."
DeathTrap's eye-laser seemed to glow brighter at those words and its mechanical voice sent chills down my spine. "Direct combat mode enabled, running sensors for the AO."
