Joe's POV
The thud of the knives hitting the target was soothing. My anger was slowly disappearing. I couldn't help but get angry when she ran off on those stupid spur of the moment missions without telling anyone. If she got hurt, I couldn't even imagine. I didn't want to even think about if I lost her. By the Angel, my life would end.
Frustrated I pulled the knife from the target and returned it to it's box before taking the stairs two at a time back to Liza's room. I knocked on the door before going in. It was empty. Of course it was.
"Liza? Are you in here? Are you in the bathroom?" I called out to the clearly empty room. "Not. Again!" I groaned in annoyance. Why couldn't she stay out of trouble for even an hour?
----------
Elizabeth POV
I had been walking aimlessly around New York city for an hour. This was so stupid. Why did I think that this was a good idea? Right, it wasn't, because I was lost in a city in the middle of the night and I was freezing cold.
Angel, as much as I hated to admit it Joe was right, I was irresponsible and now I was paying the price. I wished Joe was here with me. I slumped down on a bench trying to hold back the tears. I was tired, more so than I should have been but I guess that hunt had exhausted me more thanI thought. I had no idea how I was going to find the institute or any way to get back to Edinburgh. It wasn't like I could walk up to someone and casually ask where the New York institute was.
My ears pricked, I could hear the noise of the fight a few yards away. I got up pulling my throwing daggers from my bag in preparation. I ran to the source of the noise hoping that my instincts were right and that this was a shadowhunter who could help me.
-------
Alec's POV.
The demon was stronger than I expected, it dodged my attack and I fell landing on my stomach, winded and exhausted. The demon advanced on me but suddenly it fell. From my position on the ground all I could see was the demon with a dagger sticking out of it's head and a pair of black skinny jeans. They lent over and pulled the dagger out revealing a head of long blonde curls. They walked over and crouched in front of me, craning my neck I found myself staring into a pair of familiar blue almost purple eyes.
"Elizabeth?" I asked shocked.
"Alec? Are you alright?" She asked looking concerned offering me a hand to help me up. I took it and she pulled me up. Now standing I ran my eyes down her. She was short, slim and smiling smugly which remained me of Jace.
"What are you doing here?" I asked crossing my arms over my chest.
"Saving your ass. I thought that was quite obvious." She says in the exact same tone as Jace would, dryly with a hint of sarcasm.
"By the Angel you are so much like your brother!" I exclaimed, she pulled a face.
"Except I'm better." She grinned.
"What are you doing in New York?" I asked again.
"I thought I would do some night time sightseeing." She said dripping in sarcasm. "I came to visit."
"What about what's his face? Your parabatai? I thought you two were inseparable?"
-------
Elizabeth POV
I glared at Alec Lightwood my brother's parabatai. "You mean Joe? He's not my parabatai!" I didn't mean to sound so rude but it still hurt that Joe had turned me down.
"Yes him. I thought he has to look after you." He pulled his brows down into a frown.
"He's my partner, we look after each other." I pointed out, offended by the assumption that I needed looking after.
"Whatever. Where is he then?"
"Still in Edinburgh, probably asleep. It was two in the morning when I left." I shrugged.
"I suppose that means you should probably come back to the institute with me. " He sighed shaking his head starting to walk away motioning for me to follow him. I dropped into step beside him.

Joe POV
After scouring and waking the entire institute from attic to basement Liza was still missing I stood in her room looking for clues. Her room was immaculate as usual. I went over to her desk and stared at the two picture frames sitting there. The first was of the two of us last summer in Paris. The second her and her older brother as kids, matching blonde hair and both equally good looking, Liza's blue eyes stood out of her little pale baby face and her brother's gold ones held a protective look as he gazed down at his little sister. Jace... that was his name.
Nothing! That's what I had to go on to find her. If she had run off somewhere that she had planned she would have left a clue, she always did, it was like a game for her, but this time there was nothing! I was so frustrated and worried. Anything could be happening to her and that scared me more than anything else. I supposed that if she had taken a portal she would have used Lola. So I decided to pay her a visit, it couldn't do any harm.
I arrived at Lola's house and knocked loudly at the door. She yanked the door open angrily.
"What is with you shadowhunters waking warlocks at stupid hours of the night?"
"I think you'll find it's actually the morning." I pointed out, she murmured something angrily under her breath.
"She did say, you'd come to find her in the morning. I just assumed she meant at a respectable time of the morning!" She sighed. "You better come in then"
"She was here?" I asked hopefully following her into her familiar study
"Of course. Do you know another warlock willing to portal people at all hours of the night?" She said harshly.
"Where did you send her?" I pressed.
"Central park."
"Central park New York?" I asked slightly shocked. Of course that's where she went the crazy girl she was.
"Yes, know of any other central parks?" She asked raising an eyebrow
"She's going to the New York institute." I said thinking out loud.
"Well duh. You shadowhunters can be so thick sometimes, all those head traumas,"
"Can you portal me there?" I asked irritated.
"Yes, but she's been there for over an hour, she's probably already at the institute. It would be quicker if I sent you straight there."
"If you could send me straight there why not do that for her?"
"Give her time to get her head straight, she seemed a little off when she got here. " She shrugged opening the portal. "I'll be expecting extra payment for this, I broke my promise to her and frankly I like her better than you." She called as I stepped through the portal.
