Elizabeth's POV

I ran off to my room feeling happier than I had months. I quickly changed into black skinny jeans, a grey off the shoulder and my leather jacket and made my way back to the library. Joseph was already there leaning against one of the bookshelves. I glared at him still not happy with his earlier decision to wake me up. Izzy sauntered in looking like she'd had a full eight hours of sleep and let me tell you I was jealous.

I stood next to Joseph but not close enough to touch like we'd usually would. When we were together, I usually ended up leaning against him, our arms pressed against one another or my shoulder against his chest. It wasn't like we couldn't bare not to be touching it was more because it was easier to whisper to each without people hearing that way. He pulled a face and came to stand next to me.

"I guess you're still mad." He whispered into my ear.

"Yes Joseph, I am very mad." I said not making eye contact and trying not to laugh. Jace walked in and was followed by Clary the supposed shadowhunter who knew nothing about shadowhunting.

"Ooh full named, harsh. What did you do?" Jace grinned.

"He woke me up didn't you Joseph?" I asked. Jace winced and Joe nodded shamefully.

"Take it you're not a morning person then sis. You should be glad she's only calling you by your first name. She used to have some truly creative revenge methods as a kid." Jace laughed and sat down on the sofa.

"Oh, I will get revenge. I'm just going to bide my time until your paranoia eats away at your sanity." I shrugged. "So what's this mission?"

"We are retrieving Clary's memories." Alec declared as he entered the library.

"Retrieving them from where? Is there gonna be some silent brothers involved cos they give me the creeps." I shuddered remembering my last encounter with one of the brothers. Joe laughed and mouths 'Vienna' at me. I shook my head at him trying not to laugh since this seemed pretty serious.

"No, no silent brothers fortunately. We did that yesterday." Alec said grimly. "Although this might be worse."

"How can a party at the high warlock of Brooklyn's be worse than the silent brothers?" Izzy asked shocked. Alec shook his head.

"We're going to Magnus Bane's party?" I asked excited and a little confused.

"You know Magnus Bane?" Jace asked curiously.

Joe's POV

Elizabeth and I turned to face each other and said "Vienna" before bursting with laughter.

"Wait what happened in Vienna?" Jace frowned as we both regained our composure.

"I think the better question is what didn't happen in Vienna?" Elizabeth said stifling laughter. That was quite the memorable weekend. "It's long story that involves the discovery of my almost lethal allergy to demon metal."

"What do you mean almost lethal?" Alec asked worried.

"We're not talking hives or sneezing.  my skin literally disintegrating around the wound and there's blood poisoning and general gross-ness." She shrugged as if it was nothing but she unconsciously rubbed the scar on her side from the blade. "Magnus saved my life." She smiled bravely but I knew how much he meant to her after all he'd done to watch over her, over the years.

"That might be useful, if he saved you maybe he'll trust you enough to do the deal with us." Jace pointed out.

Confused I asked, "What does Magnus have to do with Clary's memories?"

"We don't know. That's why we have to go and find out so I can get my mother back." Clary spoke for the first time that morning. Elizabeth nodded as if she had a clue to what was going on when in reality a goldfish would have had as  much as a clue right now.

"Yes but more importantly we can get the mortal cup back." Alec seemed to be reminding her. "Now the plan for tonight."

Elizabeth's POV

Eight o'clock, half an hour till go time. I slipped on my favourite black dress. It was tight and finished mid thigh. It had long mesh sleeves and a high neckline but was covered with strings of a black sequins which glittered slightly in the light. I tugged on my over the knee suede heeled boots also black. I inspected myself the mirror. I looked good, I had braided a section of hair over my head like a crown and left the rest tumbling down in curls and the eye makeup I'd applied made them pop. The rest of my face was quite natural, foundation, blush and a swipe of a rosy pink lipstick. With the dress and the heels only a small strip of my thighs showed. Covered enough to be decent but enough to fit in at one of Magnus's parties. There was knock on the door.

"Liza, are you decent?" Joe called from outside.

"Yeah, come in." I called sticking a dagger and a seraph dagger in my boots. He walked in and he stared at me. "What?" I asked him nervously hoping that there was nothing wrong.

"Nothing, you look beautiful." He smiled looking me up and down.  "That dress is incredible."

"You don't look too bad yourself." I nodded approvingly. He wore a white shirt and a pair of well fitted black suit trousers and a pair of black suit shoes. "You got weapons or do you need some?" I asked shoving various weapons in all the places I could.

"Na, I'm good." He said pulling some blades from somewhere.  I nodded looking around the room to check it I'd got everything. I pushed my stele into the top of my boot before leaving the room Joe following behind.

Everyone was already in the library when we got there. Jace let out a low whistle.

"I know this is a party but it still a mission are you sure you wanna wear those shoes?" He asked glancing at my boots and the five inch heels. Joe shook his head and sent him a warning glance

"Please, any shadowhunter worth anything should be able to fight in heels up to seven inches easily." I shrugged and Izzy laughed.

"Now she is a girl after my own heart." She said and I glanced at her rather impressive pair of heels.

"Nice shoes." I commented.

"Well if we're all done talking about shoes lets go." Alec headed towards the door. "Are we all clear on the plan?" There was a chorus of 'yes' from around the room. We left the institute and started walking down the street lit by street lamps. Joe walked beside absent-mindedly bumping into me. We talked about this and that and I watched the group in front of me. Alec and Izzy and some mundane boy no one bothered to introduce me to. Jace and Clary were deep in conversation, the relationship between them was odd and something strong. A few minutes later we arrived at the apartment. Once we reached the right floor and the party, Joe and I split off moving through the sea of dancing bodies to search for the infamous Magnus Bane.
