"hey akaashi, why haven't you been at lunch lately?" bokuto questioned akaashi after they finished volleyball practice.
"mm, because i'm one of the leaders for the planning committee for the fall dance, and lunch is the only free period i have to help out."
"i didn't know there was a fall dance coming up."
"yeah, there's normally one near the end of september every year. it's later this year though because the third years last year as their prank was to put baby oil all over auditorium floor. and it's quite slippery so we've been waiting for the janitors to finish cleaning it all up."
"are you planning on going akaashi?"
"i kind of have to since im on the committee, though i'd rather not since it's not really my scene. what about you bokuto-san?"
"i'll probably go to get a feel of the dances at fukurodani."
"im sure you'll have fun, you seem like the type of person to like party scenes."
"i did like the dances at nekoma. though that might've been because kuroo and i always did something stupid. like the one time we snuck around the school and put a lizard in the principal's office," bokuto said in a proud tone.
'why a lizard though?" akaashi thought to himself.
"so are you going to ask anyone to the dance?" bokuto asked akaashi.
akaashi almost choked. he didn't have the guts to tell bokuto he didn't like girls, so at the moment he was a closeted gay™️.
"um no."
"oh."
"are you going to ask anyone bokuto-san?" akaashi asked to get rid of the awkward atmosphere that akaashi mafe
"i was thinking of asking yuki. she's really nice and cute."
'ouch...why'd that hurt?'
"yuki's a good choice," akaashi said pushing away his previous thought.
they arrived at their houses, each saying a quick goodbye. akaashi however, realized that there a car parked in his drive away.
'mom must be back from her business trip,' akaashi thought. she had been gone longer then the initial 2 weeks she was supposed to be gone for. she told him a while ago that she wouldn't be home for another week or two. he opened the door to his house and sure enough, in the kitchen his mom was there cooking dinner.
"hi mom welcome home, how was the business trip?"akaashi asked, taking off his shoes.
"hello keiji. the trip was good, tiring though. for people who go to college for over 10 years you would think they would act smarter than they do," his mom said, clearly annoyed at the colleagues she had to work with.
akaashi went over to his mom and gave her a quick kiss on the cheek and sat at the dinner table. it was nice not being alone in the unnecessarily big house. his mom sat a plate in front of him. it was nanohana no karashiae, his favorite dish. his mom always made it for him whenever she came home from a business trip. akaashi figured it was because she felt guilty for leaving him alone but he didn't question it.
"so, what's been going on in your life? you're home later then normal," his mom questioned sitting down at the table with her own plate of food.
"it's been going good. i was voted into class president and im currently on the planning committee team for the fall dance. also i joined the volleyball team."
his mom startes to laugh slightly. akaashi stared at her.
akaashi's mom stopped laughing. "wait, you're serious?"
"...yes?" akaashi said confused.
"tHE GODS HAVE ANSWERED MY PRAYERS! HE'S DOING A SPORT!" his mom practically screeched.
"oh my gOsh, mom calm down it's not that big of a deal!" akaashi said, his face red.
"yES IT IS! YOU JOINED A SPORT!"
"mom stop! you're gonna annoy the neighbors!"
"sorry sorry, but i'm just so proud of you for! so what made you join the team?"
"well there's this new kid bokuto who i've recently became good friends with who urged me to join the team," akaashi said with an embarrassed smile on his face.
"so this bokuto kid...do you like him?"
"what? no! he's just my friend! what made you say that?" akaashi said clearly flustered about the sudden question.
"i don't know. you just looked happy when you mentioned him, but now that you acted all flustered about im almost 99.9% sure you like him," his mom stated matter-of-factly.
"moooooom!"
"my keiji has a crush! oh i'll have to meet this boy and make sure he's good enough for you!"
"goodnight mom! love you! thanks for the food!" akaashi said quickly put his finished plate into the sink, pecked his mom's cheek again, and ran up the stairs. he could hear his mom laughing loudly in the background.
upon entering his bedroom akaashi flopped onto his bed. he probably looked like a teenage girl. sometimes he's glad that his mom understood about him liking boys, but then again, at times like this, he regrets his entire life decisions.
akaashi stared up at his ceiling contemplating what his mom thought. does he like bokuto? he never thought of bokuto in that way, he just thought of bokuto as a really good friend. now that his mom mentioned him liking bokuto in more than a friend way, akaashi couldn't help but wonder what it would be like to date bokuto.
bokuto was a good looking person, akaashi couldn't argue that. he had a nice build to him, and somehow his odd hair suits him. he was super funny and nice. he had a really nice smile that made akaashi want to smile back. and he made akaashi feel really happy.
'do i like bokuto? no...surely i'm just feeling these things because im overwhelmed at everything he's done for me. as a friend. yes...that must be it.'
satisfied with his conclusion, akaashi got out his homework snd ignored the thought of him liking bokuto.
