Shawn's POV
After hanging out with Jen and Alma it was time to come home because she has to get ready for work.
I walked in to my big fancy mansion and was greeted by my 'butler' Albert.
"Good Afternoon Sir. I am at your service." He stands in front of me and I laugh a bit.
"Albert, c'mon man you don't have to do that. I'm not my dad, you don't need to act all professional."
I run up to my room and figure out what to wear. Jen told me to dress professional, but not too formal.
I look through my closet and find some nice dress pants with a black button up, nothing too serious.
I run back down, instead of taking my motorcycle, I'll just take my Range Rover. With that I drive off to Jen's job, hopefully it isn't dramatic today.
Jen's POV
Tonight was a big night for my parents, this wasn't just some random dinner. It was a dinner for all the board members here. All the important people that my dad works with would be here, making sure he has everything under control.
They also came to check up on me and how I'm handling the employers. When my dad gave me this job, they weren't exactly the happiest. They all think I'm far too young to be 'ordering' around people, they especially don't like that our staff is made up of our family. It apparently makes us too soft.
"Aye mi niña, que hermosa te miras!" My mom said as she walked up to me for a hug.
I was wearing a burgundy dress than went down just below my knees. It had a sweetheart cut, it fit right at the top, and flowed down the rest of my body. I paired this with black heels and my hair was curled.
"Gracias Mama. Usted se mira maravillosa!" I admired my mother's beauty.
"Gracias mi princessa," she smiled while looking around "and your dad?" I shrugged. I hadn't seen my dad since I arrived. It was almost time for guests to start arriving.
"Aqui estoy." He came out from the kitchen. We smiled at him while he took a look at us.
"Mi famila." He kissed both our foreheads.
"Where's Lana and Luis?" I haven't seen my brother in such a long time. I missed him and his family.
"I told them to come around 6 and it's," he paused looking at his watch "5:58, so they should be here soon."
"When they get here please send them to the kitchen, I wanna see them before this dinner actually starts."
"Of course mija, now go, this dinner can't go wrong." I kiss both their cheeks and begin walking away.
"When have you ever known my dinners to go wrong?" I had a point, not one of my previous dinners failed.
I walk into the kitchen to see my family working hard on the food and setting up what they plan on taking out there.
The fact that there weren't near enough people to work this dinner worried me, I went to check the schedule to make sure I put enough people to work this dinner.
I put at least 25 people to work this dinner and there were about 10 missing, this can't be happening!
Lily, Mary, John, Mark, Anthony, Veronica, and plenty other people were missing. There was no time to waste, I had to call them all and make sure they were still coming.
*Skip Phone Calls*
8 people. 8 people weren't going to show up for work because of something for my Tia's. This can't actually be happening, missing 8 people will definitely put a dent in the night.
This dinner is serving over 1,000 people, we need as many workers as we can get! I left the kitchen in hopes of calming myself down.
"Hey baby." I knew that voice, that voice calmed me.
I turn around and hug him immediately, I needed him to calm me down and set me straight.
"You look stunning." Even now, in the absolute worst time, he could still make me smile.
"Thank you." I whisper. I knew exactly what I needed to do to make sure this night went smoothly.
"For what?" He looked confused.
"You'll see. C'mon!" I pull him into the kitchen.
Everyone was focused and working. Jess was making sure everything went into place so they could go set up outside, my plan might just work.
"Okay everyone, I need your attention!" They all stopped what they were doing and focused on me.
"I'm sure many of you know that eight of our workers won't be showing up today. Now I know you all know what to do, but there simply aren't enough people to serve everyone out there."
"So what? You're gonna cancel the dinner?" Jess asked.
"Nope. I know you guys haven't actually seen me work with you and actually serving people, but that's gonna be my job today. Jess is taking over for me and I'll be helping you guys serve as best I can." Everyone looked at me with confusion.
"Jen have you ever even served a dinner before?" Sofia asked.
"You guys do know that setting up the parties wasn't always my job right? When I started this was my job." I laugh and they laugh with me. "Okay thanks for listening everyone, let's get back to work!" With that everyone returned to what they were previously doing.
"So this is what you meant when you said thank you?" Shawn questioned me. I actually took a good look at him and oh how handsome he was. He always knows how to make me nervous.
"Yes. Before you showed up I had no idea what I was gonna do, but then you came to my rescue, so thank you for that." I put my hands around his neck while messing with his collar.
"I think that deserves a kiss." He says leaning in, until we were interrupted to Jess.
"How the hell are you gonna work like that?"
"I'll make it work. Just go get ready please."
More and more people were arriving and the room was filling up. I was no longer nervous about the dinner because I knew my family and I know this will all work out.
They made a speech honoring my parents for all their hard work and then they put their attention towards the dinner.
"Alright ladies and gentlemen, the dinner Jennifer Martinez prepared with her employees is ready. Enjoy!" Everyone left their seats and came to get their food.
Food was running out quickly, which made my job ten times more stressful, but nothing we couldn't handle. Soon less and less people were getting food, that means there aren't that many people left to serve.
I looked over my shoulder to make sure Shawn was doing alright when I see him talking with his friend Geoff. He looked angry, nervous, but mostly terrified.
What happened?
Shawn's POV
Jen was working the dinner and she was doing great, she was very professional about the whole situation. A few people saw me hanging back and looked very confused, most like didn't expect seeing her boyfriend here at her job.
Geoff came running to me from the kitchen almost completely out of breath.
"You alright there buddy?" He was trying hard to catch his breath.
"T-t-they're gonna t-tell Jen what you d-d-did." He says still gasping for breath.
"What are you talking about?" He takes a minute to take in all the air he could so he wouldn't be struggling to speak.
"Juan. Juan Hernandez is planning on telling Jen about your little secret."
Fuck.
