"Are you sure you don't want us to come with you?"

Zayn was staring out the window, his eyes trained on the all too familiar school building. He was sitting in Toni's car, his brother having driven him to school so he could pick up the last of his things and return his school books. During Christmas break, his parents have signed him up for a fancy boarding school in Manhattan. The family was going to fly to New York City in less than two hours and Zayn was just here to take care of a few more things before he was leaving, including saying goodbye to his friends.

He sighed, nodding his head in response. "Y- yeah." He muttered softly. "I want to- I want to do it on my own." The boy looked towards the front where his older brother and Louis were sitting, the couple exchanging hesitant glances. "Al- also, Bella will be waiting at my locker so, I'm- I'm gonna be fine." He added to convince them more, looking at his older brother with a pleading look.

"Alright," Toni sighed, giving in, "but text me if anything is wrong, you understand?" The twenty-two year old told him with a stern look, his little brother nodding his hair gently. He inhaled a deep breath and nervously gnawed at his bottom lip before opening the car door and stepping out. The boy grabbed his bag from the backseat and mumbled a soft goodbye before making his way towards the school building. He slung the bag over his shoulder and held onto it.

He's been having a little bit of success with processing lately. His parents decided to get him into therapy which ended up not being as bad as he thought. His therapist, Miss Lee, was really nice. She was very comforting and assured him that he could take his time to open up and started their first session with simple yes or no questions to get to know him better. After a week and a half of slow progress, the boy finally started talking to her.

He was very comfortable with explaining the situation and how he was feeling, being like an open book to her. Of course, the woman wrote everything down and asked him questions. Even though, the company didn't allow it, Miss Lee made sure that Zayn could take Angel with him to their sessions so she could help the seventeen year old train the puppy in case of any emergency there was in the future. It was difficult but they could manage it.

He could admit that on his birthday it was the first time he was able to properly talk to his family again. It wasn't a complete disaster. In fact, his birthday was great. All of his friends were there and they had a small slumber party in his room. He received a lot of gifts which he was thankful for but he was mainly happy that his friends could make it. Zayn bonded a lot with Alex and harry which was nice. Perrie was of course thrilled about the fact that her boyfriend got along well with him. That night, Zayn did receive a package from an unknown sender. He didn't open it until everyone was asleep and noticed that there were a lot of his favorite things packed inside of it.

He didn't know who sent it, but he had to admit it was a sweet gesture. There was a card inside the package, but the only words that were written on it were; Happy Birthday, Zayn with a red heart drawn beside it. He kept the box and placed it in one of his moving boxes so he wouldn't forget about it.

The boy sighed quietly and made his way towards the front entrance, noticing something – or more like someone – from the corner of his eye. He glanced at the person, only to recognize Andy standing by the smoking area. Their eyes locked for a split second and Zayn was quick to avert his gaze. His heartbeat increased. His pace began to quicken and he tried fleeing into the school building, but the jock caught up with him.

"Hey, not so fast fag." Andy spoke up with a sickening smirk on his lips, flicking the bud of the cigarette onto the ground. Zayn tensed a little and didn't dare to turn around until the blond did it himself rather forcefully. His breath hitched and he stared up at the taller latter, fear written all over his face.
