Liam was sitting in empty bed, going through some paper work. Different files were scattered all over him as he tried to do one at a time, work having been rather stressful lately. To his luck, after the break up between him and Vincent, he was fired as a professor for having an affair with a student. It was kind of funny considering that Liam was already together with a student but they let it slide because they were already in a relationship before he even accepted the job. He didn't mind that though because now he was available on focusing on his father's company which was slowly going into the ruins if he didn't keep up with the work, especially after Evan and him broke the deal.

Things between them didn't end pretty. Liam's eye was still swollen and his lip had a obvious cut from being beaten. His ribs were a little fractured and he had bruises all over his body. But god knows he deserved every punch and kick.

"Daddy?" A small and tired voice chimed from the doorway, causing the young male too look up from his work. His son was standing there, rubbing at his tired eyes and holding onto his blush tiger.

"Hey baby." Liam smiled softly and put his pen down. "Can't sleep?" He asked and motioned for him to come, patting the empty spot beside him. Kai was quick to walk over to the bed and climb on it, crawling up beside his father to cuddle with him. He rested his head on his father's chest and stared at the mountain of paperwork. The brunet placed an arm around his son and rubbed at his back soothingly.

"Is papa going to come back?" Kai mumbled out of the blue, almost read to fall back asleep.

"No bub." Liam sighed sadly and ran his fingers through his son's locks. "Papa isn't gonna come back." He looked down at his son who has now fallen asleep beside him. He smiled fondly and pulled the covers over him to keep him warm.

"Okay let's see..." Liam hummed as he pushed the cart into the new aisle, looking around the shelves with his three year old son sitting in it. He had a shopping list in his left hand and a pen in his right hand, trying to get the rest of the groceries they needed for the weekend. Kai was playing with his Iron man and Thor action figure, using his father's arms as some type of platforms.

"Kai, son," The brunet chuckled when he looked down at the three year old, "I'm trying to shop here." He leaned down to be in his height, giving him a stern look.

"And I'm trying to play here." His son sassed whilst sticking his tongue out at him, suddenly reaching up to Liam's head and using that as a platform for his action figures to play.

"That's it. No dessert for you tonight." Liam shook his head and grabbed his son's toys, putting them away in the bag he brought with. Kai whined in protest and tried to get them back. "No." He told him sternly. "I'm done with you and your attitude. Now unless you don't want time out once we get home, you better behave."

The little boy pouted at his father and crossed his arms over his chest, tears suddenly forming in his eyes. Liam noticed that and sighed, trying not to feel bad. This is what he always does. Ever since Vincent and him broke up, his son got some type of attitude and managed to always cause trouble. When Liam would even raise his voice the slightest bit, Kai would manage to make him feel bad by crying. Once his son knew that his father felt guilty and got ice cream in the end to make him feel better, he goes right back to being his hyper self and, again, cause trouble. It has been an endless cycle and that cycle was starting to stress him.

"I'm not falling for that." Liam said and tried staying tough, deciding not to look at the boy. He went on with the grocery shopping, even when his son was throwing a tantrum by crying loudly through the store. The customers were even looking at them, yet it was mostly at Liam with a have-you-no-shame type of look. He just responded to it with a false, yet surprisingly friendly smile.

The twenty-one year old pushed the cart into the next aisle where the sweets and snacks were, looking around until his eyes fell on a rather familiar person who was standing a few feet away from him. It was Zayn. He was trying to reach for the potato chips which were located on the top shelf of the aisle, already standing on his tippy toes to try and get them.

It's been two months since the last time they've seen each other and Zayn looked great. He was practically glowing – but that was mostly due to his pregnancy.

The brunet bit his lip, stopping the cart on the side before walking up to him and getting the chips down for him. He smiled once handing the pack to him.

"Thank you si- Liam?" Zayn said, his voice laced with shock. An awkward tension built it's way around the two men, the only sound being the rustling of the plastic seal from the bag of chips as the pregnant lad took it from him.

"Hey zee." The older guy cleared his throat and scratched at the back of his neck, biting his bottom lip. "It's nice- great to see you again. You look amazing." He scanned his appearance, smiling softly when he saw the large bump poke through the shirt he was wearing. His long hair was tied in a messy but still neat looking bun, his beard having grown thicker the past two months.

"I actually look like a mess, but thank you." Zayn chuckled softly and rubbed at his forehead. "You don't look bad yourself." He said as he checked the single father.

"Eh, I could look better." Which was true considering Liam was only wearing some grey sweats and a white tank top.

"At least you don't have to wear maternity pants because you can't fit into anything anymore." Zayn huffed whilst rubbing his bump. "This baby keeps growing and it's getting more difficult to find the right clothes."

"How long till you're due?"

"Few more weeks."

"Really? When's the–"

"Daddy!" Kai's voice interrupted his father from asking the question, making both adults drift their attention to the grumpy three year old sitting in the cart. Liam sighed and chuckled lowly at his son, looking back at Zayn. "I believe you still remember my son?" He hummed and walked over to the cart, noticing the bunch of snacks Kai snuck in.

"I do. Hi there Kai." The dark haired beauty greeted the little boy, a friendly smile formed on his lips. "It's nice to see you again."

The little boy looked up at Zayn with wide eyes, grabbing Liam's arm and hiding his face behind it shyly. "You got a shy one there, huh?" Zayn looked back up at Liam with a small laugh, the brunet shrugging.

"Once he knows you well enough, he shows a whole new side of him." He stated and ruffled his sons blond locks, averting his gaze back to the younger guy. "So- uh, how have things been going? Are you doing okay?"

"Things have been going good actually. Me and Evan are on good terms currently. We came to the agreement of co-parenting without involving a court session whatsoever. I've been living with Bella for some weeks now and yeah it's going pretty well." Zayn replied with a smile. "What about you two?"

Liam licked his lips. "Well, it's been quite a handful with this rascal clinging on me and causing trouble but other than that, we're good. I haven't spoken with Vincent since we broke up and I don't think I'll hear anything from him any time soon." He chuckled and bit his lip. He looked down at Kai who kept peaking at Zayn but hid every time he was caught by the pregnant man.

An idea suddenly popped into Liam's head and he looked back at Zayn. "Say, zayn, would you- would you like going out for dinner some time?" He asked. "My treat of course."

"What's the occasion?" Zayn questioned, lifting a brow.

"Just to catch up a little." Liam responded with a small shrug, nervously gnawing at his bottom lip. "I mean, you don't- don't have to buy I just thought–"

"Pick me up at seven pm sharp, not a second later." Zayn cut him off mud sentence and grinned a little. "It was nice seeing you again Kai." He hummed and waved at the three year old before passing the two, heading out of the aisle.

Liam wasn't expecting Zayn to give in that quickly and he just watched him disappear around the corner. He smiled to himself at that and looked down at his son. He needed to notify the babysitter on such short notice.
