Rose Valley High
"If anything bad happens, call me. You got that, Zayn?"
Zayn nodded his head and gazed out the window of his brother's car, his eyes glued onto the crowded bleachers that was piling up with every student from Freshman to Seniors. The tech-geeks were setting up the microphone and speakers for their principal, Principal Higgins, who was getting ready to announce the same speech as every year before a game. The boy could feel his heart beat fast due to how nervous he was. Usually he would never go to school events because no one really wanted him there and he would always end up alone, just standing awkwardly on the side. Sounded sad, he knew that, but what more could he do when he had no friends? And he was just doing this so he wouldn't disappoint his crush – who invited him to the afterparty.
"Zayn," Toni edged and tilted his head, his arm resting on the steering-wheel, "did you hear what I said?"
"Yes, Toni." Zayn rolled his eyes and turned his head to face his brother, looking into his blue orbs. "I will call you if anything bad happens. Don't worry." He muttered and unbuckled himself, reaching his hand out for the handle.
"I'm being serious." His older brother sighed. "You never know what might happen at events and afterparties."
The dark haired boy could think of many things that might or could happen to him tonight. But he shook those thoughts off and decided not to worry about any of it. He was here for Liam only and that was going to stay that way. No one could possibly ruin this for him – or at least that's what he thought. He opened the car door and climbed out, mumbling a goodbye before closing the door and slowly making his way towards the football field.
His palms became sweaty and his heart rate quickened more and more as he got close to the bleachers, already feeling eyes on him. He gulped and kept his head low to avoid eye contact with everyone, something he'd always do when he was shy. He could hear his name getting whispered, yet decided to ignore it and continue his way up the steps, going to the top of the bleachers. Zayn walked down to the corner and sat down, luckily no one really ever being interested in sitting on top of the bleachers.
The view was much better from where he was sitting and he could see the whole field perfectly. He always wondered why no one considered sitting up there but at least it gave him more time to be all by himself. Tugging his sleeves down to cover his hands from the cold wind, his eyes wandered around the field, spotting the cheerleaders standing in a group. They were mostly gossiping about their school bands outfits – as always – as well as the companions cheerleaders, sending each other glares and obnoxious looks.
His eyes soon met with Sophia's and he could spot a hint of disgust and disapproval in her dark eyes, her nose lightly scrunching when she checked him out. The sixteen year old's shoulders slumped at that and he looked away, hugging himself and leaning his body back against metal railing.
He pursed his lips little and gazed towards the other side of the field to see the rival school holding their own pep-rally. The opposite teams were all probably still huddled in the locker rooms, getting a speech of encouragement by their coaches. Zayn didn't know why, but he was actually excited to watch Liam play tonight, hoping that their school might win again.
It didn't take long when all of the students of Rose Valley High were settled on the bleachers, their principal stepping forward and grabbing the microphone. "Good evening Rose Valley High." He greeted the students with a big smile. Everyone started cheering.
The older man chuckled and motioned for them to calm down, before continuing. "As you all may know, for some team members of our football team this is the last year before they graduate to continue their path for their future. The new school year had only begun a month ago and time is already moving by fast." The crowd booed at that, some showing him a thumbs down. "I know, I know, we're going to have to say goodbye to some of the best players we had in years." He sighed. "But," he looked over at his students with a wide grin, "that doesn't mean we aren't going to stop showing them our support now are we?" The students shouted a loud no but Zayn was the only one who stayed quiet, watching everything curiously. He's never really experienced any of these events until now and it surprised him how much the school was so into their football team.
