I couldn't get my mind off of what happened yesterday. I tried so hard to forget about it, but it never went away. We still haven't gotten any calls from other than telling us that they found orange fur in the envelope. It was probably Ruff's own fur, I thought. If he didn't write the letter, how did his fur get in it?
It was a chilly and cloudy afternoon. It had rained the previous night, so the streets were still wet. Kyle and Aunt Cynthia left for work, so it was just Hazel and I. We didn't bother going to his dog house today. We were still questioning our trust in him. I would still be shocked if they arrested Ruff, however. What's going to happen to the show? I didn't want it to be canceled because of this. Instead, I just decided to wait.
I just decided to clear my head, casually walking around the house. I finished my homework and practiced my music a bit earlier. Now, there wasn't much to do. All I did were a few light chores. Eventually, I hear a call coming from the house phone. I ran to answer it.
"Hello?" I answered.
"Ruby, it's Ruff. Listen, you need to get here right now. I have proved that I'm innocent," he replied.
"What kind of proof?" I questioned.
"Come over here and let me show you. I don't want to alarm you, but I know who did it," he said.
"Who?" I asked.
"I'll explain everything when you get here," he responded.
"Okay, Ruff, we'll be right there," I hung up.
I told Hazel what happened and we decided to see what the fuss was about. We took several subways to get there as fast as we could. All I was able to think was Ruff isn't going to jail if his "proof" is accurate and reasonable. As soon as we got there, we forcefully knock in the door until he answered. We were out of breath. He opened the door and let us in. The entire house was cleaned up.
"I'm so glad you guys are here," he said.
"Okay, Ruff, what's going on?" Hazel asked.
"I know who stole the grand prize," he claimed.
"Who?" I asked.
"Well, I'm not gonna say any names, but her name is a kind of flower," he replied.
"Wait? Blossom? How could she have possibly stolen the grand prize?" Hazel questioned.
"Let me explain. First of all, she was the only one here who had access to my fur and paw prints," he explained.
"I mean, any one of us could take fur samples from you," I backfired.
"I also found a Ruff Ruffman costume inside one of the drawers from her desk," he replied. He showed us the costume.
"Oh," Hazel said.
"Now that she left for some 'cat business', she ran off with the grand prize for herself," he responded.
"Well, what do you want us to do?" I asked.
"I want you to get all of the evidence and give it to the police," he demanded.
I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I knew I had to find her before it was too late. While they weren't looking, I made a dash for the front door and ran off. I sprinted around downtown, trying to find her. It was lightly raining and the temperature was around forty degrees. The streets were pretty busy, and I kept bumping into people. There were so many pathways that I went through and I was still trying to get used to Boston. Then, I ended up in a dark, mysterious alley. Goosebumps ran down my spine and my arms just being here. I didn't know what to do. I wanna go home, I thought. Then, my flip phone started ringing. I pulled it out and realized that an unknown number was calling. I have given my number to a few classmates in school, so I decided to answer it. That was a mistake.
