"What is there left? We don't have anything that'll get us to her," Hazel said.
"Let's check her room," I said.
We sprinted to her room and investigated every single inch of the room. The only things Hazel found were a couple pieces of her jewelry and her clothes. All I found were old family pictures. In fact, some of the pictures showed Ruff's other siblings besides Scruff. In total, he has over five brothers and five sisters, including his twin. Among closer inspection, there were two business cards hidden in one of her drawers.
"Hey, Hazel. Take a look at this." I showed her the two business cards. One of them was from a clinic not very far from her home and the other was from a nail salon.
"Alright, that's perfect. If this is from the same clinic that Grandma went to, we can just ask about her. Maybe they might have a clue. Is there anything else in there we can use there?" Hazel replied.
"Okay, let's see." I was digging through the drawer when I came across an opened envelope. "Look, it's from the same clinic. It says it's for Marilynn Ruffman."
"Obviously, it's for Grandma."
"Wait, her first name is Marilynn?" I questioned.
"Apparently, yes, but that's not important right now."
"Yeah, come on. We gotta go," I said.
We headed outside to the front porch. I rode my new bicycle to her home this morning to speed up the time it takes to get there. I also had a large backpack with me. I placed the envelope and one business card in one of the small pockets; I had the one form the clinic to know where to go. I put on my bike helmet and I rode away with Hazel in the basket.
We went through another part of Boston we have never been through. We were only familiar with a few parts of this old city since Kyle tends to overreact if he finds out where I was. In fact, he taped a bunch of pillows to my body when I first got my bicycle until he realized how ridiculous that was. He has been worried more often about me ever since I would come home at around midnight. He would wait for me every night in the living room to see if I was okay. I really don't see the need for so much protection since I'm perfectly capable of taking care of myself.
Anyway, the clinic was close to the beautiful public garden with many types of plants and flowers for everyone to see. It was also a very warm and sunny day, perfect for flowers to bloom. We were still able to see the garden from the distance of the dog clinic. We found a bicycle parking nearby, I locked my bike and helmet in, then we entered the clinic. As soon as we got in, we were hit by the smell of medicine and the strong AC. I immediately got goosebumps from the sudden change of temperature. The waiting area was rather empty, except for an elderly dog waiting to be called. There was a receptionist at the front desk, so we decided to approach him.
"Hi, welcome to Grave's Dog Clinic, how may I help you?" the dog replied.
"Hi, we're looking for someone who came in here yesterday," I replied.
"Alright, what's the patient's name?" he asked.
"Her name is Marilynn Ruffman," I responded.
"Oh, you mean Mrs. Ruffman? Yeah, gotcha. Well, she was here yesterday." the receptionist said.
"We know that. She's not home nor can we find her anywhere," I said.
"Well, I can't give you any details about her, but you can ask the guys in the control room. They can show you the surveillance videos," he explained.
The dog grabbed the office phone and started dialing a number. There was a second-long pause. "Mark, I need you to unlock the door. There are two individuals who want to see a surveillance video from yesterday. I'll send them right over." He hung up the phone. "Okay, you guys need to go to the control room. Take a left, then go down the hallway and make a right."
