I woke up to someone slamming my door open. Kyle, Aunt Cynthia, and Hazel came into my room unexpectedly with a cake. I was just waking up.
"Happy birthday!" they chanted.
"What's going on?" I yawned.
"It's December 2nd. Haven't you checked your calendar in the past week?" Kyle replied.
"Wow, I can't believe it's already close to the end of '07," I said.
"Oh, my little baby niece is growing up," Aunt Cynthia sighed.
"So, what's the occasion? You've never done this," I asked.
"Well, last night I got a call from Sadie, and I wanted to surprise you, but she's coming to Boston for Christmas and New Year's," he explained.
"Are you serious?" I asked.
"I'm not done yet. In summer, she's actually going to transfer universities to here, so she's gonna live with us," he added.
I was so excited to finally see my sister after two years. We have had a somewhat close relationship while we still lived with Dad. I got up and got dressed for school. The weather had changed a lot since October. The temperature dropped significantly. It has started to snow a little bit. I started wearing my winter clothes.
It was a normal school day. My friends have remembered my birthday, which I felt happy about. However, Evan forgot about my birthday. I have noticed he made such a big deal about his birthday but not care about anyone else's. I had a bad feeling about him. Anyway, during the announcements, they said that they have been keeping updates about the school hockey team. I do have experiences in playing hockey. In fact, Dad used to play in a popular hockey team called the Canine Actor's Guild in the past. Even after he quit, he still taught me how to play hockey. I didn't go to tryouts when they were available because it wasn't the same without him.
Hazel and I pretty much have the same schedule after school every day. We had to report to Ruff's house as soon as possible. However, the subway we usually take to get there was delayed because of technical issues, so we were a bit late.
As soon as we got there, Ruff popped out to us. The entire house was covered in balloons and confetti. Chet brought me a slice of cake with a candle lit up on it. Ruff handed me a present. I opened it and there were four t-shirts with the show logo on them. They came in four different colors: blue, orange, yellow and white. I thanked him for them and we started to go to work now.
Over an hour later, Ruff got frustrated with something. He wasn't helping on anything for the new season. I can tell it must be something personal for him. I felt a bit worried. Hazel overheard everything.
"What's wrong?" I asked Ruff.
"Oh, I just can't find the perfect gift for the poodle next door, Charlene," he replied.
"Why?" I asked.
"I want to ask her out on a date, but she doesn't want to. So, I wanted to send her something special to change her mind," he explained.
"We can help," Hazel said.
"What do I give her?" he asked.
"Well, how about something homemade, like a card?" I suggested.
"I can't do that!" he claimed.
"Why not?" I asked.
"I'm not good at arts and crafts," he replied.
"How about a poem?" Hazel asked.
"I have written poems to her, but she didn't like any of them," he said.
