Back in the amphitheater Janey noticed that a lot of the dragons were gone, but the full council was still there and so was Zelistuck.
"Where did everyone go? How long was I asleep?" She softly asked Gel.
"You were only asleep a few minutes and most of the dragons left because they are not personally involved in your training. Those who are still here are either potential teachers or just curious." Gel answered as sheled Janey back to the ottoman.
"Janey, do you remember now?" Scathnior asked.
"Yes ...everything, but a lot of it can't be done in the material world.Physics won't allow for it."
"The physics of the material plane is not the problem; the problem is your belief system. Your empirical knowledge and your learned responses tell you,for example, that levitation is not rational. It may not be rational but that does not mean it is impossible." The Queen answered.
"How do I un-believe in gravity?" Janey asked.
Many of the council members looked at each other before Traycik spoke to her in a voice that reminded her of her Grandpa Joe.
"To ask that question in the manner which you ask proves your wisdom, young one. You are correct in asking how to un-believe in what your world thinks is a rule. It is only a rule because the consensus of your population believes it is. Everything we can do here in the astral and in higher planes can be done in the physical plane as well; if people believe strongly enough that the result they want is what they get."
"Thank you for the compliment but that still doesn't answer the question of how to un-believe something that reinforces the belief every second of every day."
"Manecho, I believe this is your department." Belgestra spoke more softly than before.
"You must convince yourself that gravity serves you, not that you have no control over it. When you no longer want to be held by gravity you must believe it will loosen its hold on you. Once you conquer this belief, then as with anything else, you must practice levitation."
"Can we start now? I mean the laws of physics here are different but it might give me an idea of what to expect."
Belgestra's"face" shifted and Janey hoped that was a smile. "I am pleased to see the courage that sometimes got you in trouble, young one, is still with you." His voice sounded like pounding surf and Janey realized he was laughing.
"I've been told way more than once that 'curiosity killed the cat' and I always answered with 'And satisfaction brought it back'. Some of my friends call me kitty because they swear I have nine lives."
"The flexibility you see in your furry dragon is yours as well, Janey. If you believe it is there." Scathnior answered that comment.
"Oh, I know it is, I practice yoga and I'm a gymnast. My coach says I'm the most flexible student he's ever seen."
"That is because you are not only human down there; you are a dragon as well. We're all very flexible." Manecho said with pride in her.
Janey had no idea why the thought popped into her head but she blurted out, "Am I like blood related to any of you?"
The council members who were dragons all looked at each other with shock then amusement.
"In a way, you are, Janey, as a dragon you are my mate." Manecho answered her.
Janey tried to puzzle that together. "But you're a void dragon and Gel says I'm a forest dragon ... don't you have to be like the same species to be mates?"
"The variety of dragon is mostly like the differences in breeds of dog. You can crossbreed any dog with any other dog, it's still a dog. There are very few breeds of dragon that can not mate with other breeds, and if we are in our humanoid form we can mate with other humanoid beings; this is the origin of the drakes. The original drakes were half-bred dragons, but they have existed for so long they are their own species now." Scathniorinstructed gently.
"Ah ... and to some dragon breeds, the half bred were lesser beings and that's where the animosity began?"
"Exactly. But it has gone on for too long. We're changing that with having Gel on the council." Wu answered.
"But why so young a person? I mean it's pretty obvious you all are what literature calls Great Wyrms; Gel is only a little girl. I don't understand."
Traycik answered."There are eleven breeds of Drake, Janey. The rarest, the most spiritual, by their own admission, is the Silver Drakes; an ancient ancestry among a group of humans and several Silver dragons. They did what they could to keep their lines pure but that led to their fading from existence. The Council of Drakes agreed that the last born Silverdrake would be the emissary to the Dragon Council and they wanted her raised by the dragons so that she would not grow up to hate them as most drakes do."
"So the animosity between the two species is not one-sided?"
"Not at all, Janey. Many breeds of dragon are horrible to the drakes, particularly the haughty and mean-tempered breeds. But the Drakes resent the dragons as well." Zelistuck answered.
"Well, that makes them sound all too human."
"From where do you think humans got it? We are all, ultimately, only spirit. You are not the only dragon to take on human form or live on planet Earth." Scathnior instructed.
"OK. What about practical training? Is there anything we can start with now?"Janey brought them back on point.
"So eager. You have always been eager." Manecho said softly.
"Let's start with translocation or levitation, which ever comes more naturally to you." Wu instructed."I want you to pick one of the upper ledges, not too high to start, and with your mind, make your spirit body be on that ledge."
"So ... pick out a low ledge and just ... will myself there?"
"Exactly." Wu answered.
