Janey watched asher eyes "calmed" and returned to their own color. She wasshaking a little by the time she looked "normal"and Nancy and Brenda both came and held her.
After a long timetogether; the girls wouldn't let Janey go until she stoppedshaking, Janey sat slowly on what was Amanda's bed.
"Guys ... I haveto share this with someone and you can never breathe a single word ofwhat I'm about to say with anyone at all."
Brenda and Nancyboth put out their hands with their pinky extended.
"Pinky swear."They both said and Janey took their hands in her pinky fingers and"shook on it".
"You guys areboth my friends since, well, crawling days. You know I've alwayshad these odd abilities... well, I found out that at a higher levelof existence ... this sounds so stupid out loud ..."
"Janey ...nothing about you is stupid." Nancy cut in softly and put her handreassuringly on Janey's knee.
"I found outthat at a higher level of vibration I'm a dragon. Not like the evilone in "Sleeping Beauty" ... most dragons are not like that atall."
Nancy just satwith an expectant look on her face but Brenda smiled a little smileto herself and touched Janey's cheek.
"I know. Janey ...I have a dragon companion."
"Yes, she does, and a silver dragon at that. Your friend Brenda is very aware."Zelistuckcut in.
For the first timesince she met Zelistuck, Janey dissolved into tears and she huggedBrenda for dear life. After a few minutes she looked to Nancy withpleading in her eyes and Nancy joined the hug. They didn't havelong to comfort each other; there was a knock at the door.
The girlsscrambled to straighten themselves out before Brenda answered thedoor. It was Mr. Hanson.
"Come in Mr.Hanson." Brenda said and started to close the door.
"Leave the dooropen, Brenda." Mr. Hanson commanded softly.
"Janey ... didyou attack Amanda Pepperidge?"
"No!" She saidwith incredulity. "Did she say that? Yes, I got in her face andtold her she was an idiot but I never touched her."
"She said youmade fun of her religious beliefs."
"That isn'taccurate either. I told her that the devil did not exist and thathumans didn't need any help creating dismay and mayhem. I wasn'tmocking her, I said it flat out."
"How did thisget started?" He seemed to relax.
"She wascowering in the corner of the room barricaded in by her possessionsand as soon as Nancy asked her what her problem was she accused me ofbeing an evil witch."
Mr. Hanson turnedthen to Brenda and Nancy who were sitting next to each other on thebed next to Janey.
"She actuallysaid witch?"
"Her wordsexactly;' Witch... she's a witch ... I want out of this room right NOW!' andshe was nearly hysterical." Nancy provided.
"This is becauseof the incident with the car?" Hanson asked Janey.
"Undoubtedly.Mr. Hanson, I think you need to make an assembly and explain this tothe entire class at one time or we'll never hear the end of it."Janey offered.
"I will ...right now. Would you girls mind if Judith Policosky shared this roomwith you? I can put Amanda in with those other three girls; two ofthem are from her church."
"No problem atall! Judith is cool." Brenda piped up.
"She's alreadyone of Janey's friends." Nancy said.
"You get alongwith her ok, Nancy?" Hanson asked.
"As much as wesee each other, we don't share any classes together so we don'treally know each other too well."
Mr. Hanson put ona really serious face. "Nancy, Brenda, I want to ask you somethingno teacher should ask a student. I want you to protect Janey. I'llbring it up to Judith as well. She is going to get hounded for awhile until this psychic miracle blows over, but you guys know howrumors run through a school."
"You are notasking us to do anything we don't already do, Mr. Hanson." Nancysaid and put a protective arm around Janey.
"Yeah ..."Janey began with a little laugh "and about a third of the freshmanclass have bruises to prove it." Janey retorted.
"Well, I don'texactly want you to fight anyone but ..." Hanson smiled to himself.
"I don't takeKendo lessons for nothing." Nancy replied. "I don't startanything of a violent nature but I make sure people know to leave usalone."
"OK ... Assemblyin the hotel banquet hall in about 40 minutes. You guys just hide inthe crowd anywhere; I'm not putting Janey on display. But I'dbetter nip this in the bud right now."
"Thank you Mr.Hanson." Janey said to his retreating back.
"Well, thingswill be easier without 'miss prim' in here. Does Judith know?"
Brenda askedJaney.
"Only a little, she's not a full insider like you two."
"Back to youbeing a dragon at a higher level ... is that why your eyes changed sodrastically?" Nancy asked as if it was a normal thing to havehappen.
"Yes. I have aspirit guide, a beautiful dragon named Zelistuck and she told me whenI get really angry the dragon comes out. I physically start to shiftinto dragon form."
"Yes,Glitterwing told me dragons are natural shape shifters." Brendaadded.
"Your dragon'sname is Glitterwing?" Nancy tried not to laugh.
"Well, she is afairy dragon. Her biggest form is really only about the size of acat."
"I haven't metit yet but do I have a dragon companion?"
"I don't know, but you know my mom believes we all have guides and guardian angels ...for Brenda and me those angels are actually dragons." Janey toldher.
"Either of youknow how I can learn to speak to my own?"
Brenda went into"thinking mode" and Janey consulted Zelistuck.
"Nancy is toogrounded in this world, too much into only her five physical senses. She needs to develop a sense of wonder ... the problem with mosthumans and their guides and guardians is this; believing is seeing, not seeing is believing." Thedragon answered.
"Nan ... mydragon guide said that your natural skepticism is what keeps you fromcommunicating with your guide and guardians. She specifically usedthe phrase 'Believing is seeing'. You have to let go of some ofyour 'if I can't use my five physical senses to investigate itthen it doesn't exist' attitude."
"Figures. OK ...I see you do things others would say was impossible ... I'll workon believing I can do them or whatever it takes. I want to be whereyou are spiritually, even if I don't get the cool spooky powers."Nancy said with her arm around Janey's shoulders. Nancy was alwaysthe practical one; nothing seemed to upset her very much.
