Janey began toroll over, awake, just as Katey came to tell her they were landing.
"You haveuncanny timing, Janey. Mr. Frost wants you in a chair and seat beltwe're descending to land." She smiled.
"Good. Are thereany sandwiches left? I'm starving." Janey asked her "sister"as they walked back into the seating area.
The sandwichesaboard were gone but Frost told her they would be going straight tothe restaurant once they got back so Janey made do with a carton ofmilk. In the limo he asked if her training had gone well, which got alook from Carmella.
"I have the restof the week to work on it. It was a difficult lesson but I'll befine as soon as I get to eat." Janey replied.
"What lesson? You were sleeping weren't you?" Carmella asked.
"Not exactly; Ihave spirit teachers and I astral travel to them and the body appearsto be asleep when I do."
"Whoa ... youmust be a very advanced spirit, Janey to have spirit teachers."
"Well, we allhave at least one guardian and one guide; it's just a matter oflearning to hear them."
"I meditate andall that good stuff, why don't I hear mine?" She pouted.
"Do you want meto say it politically or straight out?" Janey asked.
"Straight out, Ihate bullshit."
"Your angerissues; your anger is blocking them."
"So ... what ...I have to forget all the assholes in my life and pretend everythingis fine?" Carmella was getting hot.
"Not forget,Carmella ... forgive ... yourself."
"I don't haveanything to forgive myself for!" She almost shouted.
"Carmella ...for someone who is fairly good at reading people you can't readyourself worth a dime."
"What's thatsupposed to mean?" Carmella was listening, maybe for the firsttime.
She wasn't readyto "pop someone" as she would say; she calmed and was reallylistening.
"I've watchedyou get dressed and I've watched you in bathrooms. You almost neverlook yourself in the eyes, Carmella."
"So? What'sthe big deal?"
"That tells meyou are ashamed of yourself." Janey said softly.
Carmella actuallylooked stunned then thoughtful, and then tears appeared in her eyes.
"You're right,Janey. I am ashamed that I couldn't do anything about the terriblethings people said to me. I hate the way they made me feel like afreak and no one seemed to understand me at all. The anger is turningthat self loathing outward."
"If you want tohear your own guide and guardians ... you have to let it go,Carmella. You were not equipped to deal with that derision. You werejust a kid, what did you know? And your parents were no help."
"No theyweren't. They didn't understand either. Poppi just kept asking mewhy I couldn't act like a normal kid and all Mama did was cry."
"Carmella ...how would you like to spend a weekend at my house?" Janey askedafter letting Carmella cry for a while.
"Ju kidding?"She asked with hope in her eyes.
"No, I'm notkidding."
"You have toclear it with your parents first, Janey." Frost said.
"I know, but Ialso know they'll say yes."
Frost just lookedat her for a long time, trying to figure her out, but Janey didn'tcare. Carmella needed help letting go and she knew she could helpher. To Janey, that was all that mattered.
