"Happy Birthday...,"you rolled over and nuzzled Tom's ear. His eyes were still closed but his lips curled at the corners. He lifted his arm and you crawled over and rested your head on his chest.
"What's the birthday boy want for breakfast?" you asked, yawning. His eyes were still closed.
"More sleep," he grumbled, kissing your hair.
You giggled softly.
"Sorry, Tiger," you said, kissing his chest, "Go back to sleep."
You smiled to yourself and reached your hand under the sheets, looking for some trouble to get into.
"Y/N...," he murmured in a scolding tone, "That doesn't feel like sleep."
You smiled innocently and planted kisses on his chest...stomach...until you vanished under the covers.
"I promise you don't have to do anything," you whispered seductively, "Just relax and enjoy your present."
A little later, you stepped out of the shower and found Tom sitting on the edge of the bed, phone in hand and a serious look on his face.
"What....?" you said unsure of yourself. You left him spent and smiling only minutes before. Why the sudden change in mood?
"Is this you?" he asked, holding his phone up to you. On his screen was a picture of what looked like a very happy couple, in the window of a pub, enjoying a brew together.
"Yes," you sighed. It was you. Who the hell took this photo?
"Who sent that to you?" you asked, arms crossed.
"This was taken while I was in L.A.," he said, ignoring your question. He finally looked at you. His eyes weren't even angry, just confused and sad.
"Get to your point, Tom," you said all pissy. Were we really going to have this conversation now? After everything, he still didn't trust you.
"Well, what am I supposed to think, Y/N?" He threw his hands up in the air and flashed you a frustrated look.
"You're supposed to trust me," you shot back at him, voice raised.
"I know, I know," he put his head in his hands and sighed, "I do..."
"It was supposed to be a surprise...," you mumbled.
"Can you just tell me what's going on?" he lifted his head. He looked so distraught.
"You're going to feel really stupid," you smirked, walking over to him. You knelt down in front of him.
"What are you-" he looked at you surprised.
Like you were going to give him head twice in one morning. As if.
You pulled a package out from under the bed, all wrapped up and topped with a bow. You held it against your hip with one hand, and grabbed Tom's phone with the other.
"This," you said, shoving his phone in his face," is Giacomo. I ran into him one time in Camden. He hit on me and gave me his card. He's very handsome and charming, yes. But not at all my type."
You sat down next to him and continued.
"Turns out Giacomo is a purveyor of fine Italian leather and has an in with Dr. Martens. I reached out to him and asked him for a favor. We met for drinks to discuss that favor."
You handed him the present.
"Here's the favor," you said watching him.
Tom took his gift and gave you those apologetic puppy dog eyes.
"Y/N, I'm...," he started.
You shook your head.
"I said you were going to feel stupid. Just open it," you smiled at him. You had to cut him some slack on his birthday.
Tom ripped into it and opened the box. His face lit up and he gave you the biggest grin. God, he was adorable.
"These are so dope!" Tom exclaimed.
Inside the box, lay a pair of custom Docs, matte black 8 eyes with the Punisher skull embossed onto the toe and heel.
He held a boot up, admiring it. You watched him, laughing. He seemed so excited, like a kid at Christmas.
"One of a kind, Tiger. Just like you," you said, smiling warmly at him. You loved making him happy. You wanted to make him this happy for the rest of your life. You wondered if you could.
"And a note!" he said, grabbing a piece of paper from the box.
"Oh you don't have to read that now," you said hastily reaching for it.
He held it close to his chest, and put on some melodramatic daytime soap voice.
"A letter from my love! How dare you try to take that away from me!" he yelled.
You cringed, remembering what you wrote. You were pretty sure you were sauced when you did. And it was sappy and oh so embarrassing.
Tom leaned back on the bed and read:
**Tom, I'll never forget that day we met in the park, when you showed up with that Punisher hoodie on and I felt my whole world had shifted. I saw you there and something inside of me said, He's the one. But I told myself over and over not to fall in love with you. I'm so happy I didn't listen. I love you so much and am so thankful that you walked into my life that day. So many amazing things are ahead of you, babe, and you're going to crush it! I hope you like these boots and that they remind you of me when you're walking towards your dreams. Happy Birthday, Tiger! I love you**
Tom finished reading and looked up at you. You couldn't look at him. It was all too close, wasn't it - him leaving? You didn't want this drama, not on his birthday. You plastered a smile on your face and gave a weird little shrug.
Tom leaned over and stroked your cheek affectionately.
"Thank you, darling," he said so sweetly, then kissed you tenderly. Now, there's that part in the Grinch where it says that his heart grew three sizes. That's how you felt in that moment, with that kiss. Your heart seemed too big for your chest. So big that it seemed to squeeze the tears out of you.
"Hey...Y/N," he whispered, cupping your face. You grabbed his hand and shook your head.
"I'm fine," you smiled, wiping a tear from your cheek, "Anyway, it's your birthday!!!" you screamed trying to lighten the mood. Tom didn't look convinced.
"I may be walking towards my dreams, Y/N, but I'm not walking away from you." he said, puppy dog eyes in full force.
"I know that, Tom. I don't need you to worry about me, okay? Now, what do you want for breakfast. Beans and toast? Eggs?" you raised your eyebrows questioningly.
"Are you on the menu?" he smirked, eyeing the belt of your robe. He tugged on it, loosening the fabric all around you.
"Oh I am indeed, Tiger," you purred, "I hope you're hungry."
