The Pain ch.36

Veronica

The doctors wanted to keep me at the hospital one more day to run more tests. Of course Lucas would not leave. But I was fine with that.

I watched from the hospital bed and Lucas stared out the window talking to his mom on the phone. I smiled at that. I'm happy that him and his mom are on good terms now.

Once he finishes talking to his mommy, he turns to me.

"How are you feeling?" He says sitting on the side of my bed.

"A lot better. But I'm starving. Why are they giving me jello?!" I've been eating jello since yesterday and I don't like it one bit.

"Because they don't know if they should give you food. I'll go ask if I can get you some real food though." He says, then places a gentle kiss on my cheek before leaving the room.

About five minutes later, Lucas walks in with a tray that has mashed potatoes and gravy on it. My mouth I already watering.

"Here you go, love." He says placing the tray in front of me.

"Bless you soul, love." I say back and he just laughs.

As I eat my amazing mashed potatoes then look up at Lucas.

"Hey Lucas, are you okay?" I've noticed that he seems quieter then normal.

He looks up. I think I might of disturbed his thought process.
"Im just thinking about you." He says giving me a small smile.

When I don't answer He continues. "Im just worried,you know? I just want you to be happy and safe."

"I am happy." I respond back.

"Then why did this happen Veronica?" He says standing up. " Why the hell are you having nightmares about your anxiety and you overthinking?" His voice became rougher.

"Lucas-"

"Veronica." He says coming to the side of the hospital bed and putting his hands in mine.
He kisses the back of my hand. His voice is at whisper level now. "I'm worried about you V. How can you be happy when your having these nightm-" and that's when I cut him off.

"Lucas listen to me. I have absolutely no idea what I was dreaming about. I wasn't even thinking about any of that before whatever the heck happened." I say staring up at him.

He opens his mouth to say something, but then closes it and shakes his head. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't of ranted like that."

"Hey, it's okay. I rant sometimes to." I say laughing a little and giving him a smile. He smiles back.

Yeah I know it's kind of a boring chapter. But sorry it took so flipping long. I'm a slow person. Anyway I hope you like the new book cover. I felt like changing it, so I did. I actually like it a lot more.
