"What?" Ivan looked at you with confusion, "You want me to sleep in guest bedroom?" He asked and you just smiled.
"It's a surprise." You simply stated.
"What kind of surprise is it that I get kicked out of bedroom?" He pouted a bit and pulled you close to him, his head resting on top of yours. "This doesn't sound like a very good surprise." Rolling your eyes you patted his back gently.
"I promise you'll love it." Pulling away, you kissed his cheek softly and smiled. Ivan smiled back and patted your head.
"If you say so, подсолнух." Smiling more you made your way downstairs and to your car to pick up the supplies that you'll need.
Arriving back home you made sure that Ivan was somewhere else than in the bedroom you two shared, although it'd be a struggle to keep the Russian man away from the room, you knew the end product would be worth it. Laying down a white sheet on the floor and against the wooden floors, you tied your hair up and started the progress on the surprise for Ivan.
The first day went smoothly, Ivan only tried to come in twice, of course he knocked on the door but that didn't bother that much. The second day was a bit rougher, Ivan tried to come in several times but thankfully the doors were squeaky and his footsteps weren't exactly quiet like. The third day was rough, Ivan seemed to understand that his steps weren't quiet so he sent out his sister to do his sneaking. Luckily for you, Natalia was a good friend of yours, although she did try to kill you when the two of you first met, to the Belarusian girl, you grew on her quite fast. Natalia slipped inside the room without you noticing, it wasn't until you tapped you on the shoulder did you jump in surprise and shock. Turning around, you faced her.
"Natalia! What are you doing in here?" You questioned her whole standing up. She crossed her arms and continued to stare at you.
"Big brother asked me to see what this surprise was. So I did, I don't understand what all these colors are supposed to be." She gestured to the wall behind you. Sighing you shook your head, mumbling something about Russians and their lack of patience.
"It's supposed to be a sunflower field, I'm not finished with it yet." Natalia made a sound of realization.
"Big brother will like that." You nodded.
"I know, I just hope he doesn't ruin the surprise for himself."
"I will help, yes?" Natalia asked, you gave her a look.
"How?"
"I stand guard at door, he wouldn't make it past me." She explained, you mulled over the suggestion; it would help with his sudden intrusions.
"Alright, you can help." Natalia gave a small smile and left, taking guard outside the door to keep away any impatient Russians.
The fourth day went by smoothly, there were no interruptions thanks to the helpful Natalia, Ivan seemed to take notice of how you put his little sister against him and retaliated; Toris. A little backstory: Toris likes Natalia, a lot. Natalia likes Toris but not as much as she likes Ivan, her older brother. Ivan takes notice of how much they like each other and uses Toris to get Natalia away from the door. Is it a horrible thing to do? Yes. Does it help? In some ways, yes.
So that's where you are now, hating your boyfriend with every passing minute that Natalia went off with Toris. You can't blame the girl, she had a crush on him and she found happiness in him. You weren't mad at Natalia, you were mad at Ivan for using two people's feelings to get what he wants. A bitch move to say the least. You tried to hurry up with the painting, but being the perfectionist that you were, you didn't want the art to look poorly made or rushed in any way. Any minute now Ivan could come barging through that door, and you really didn't want this surprise to be ruined for him.
A few hours went by and there were no signs of the Russian man. All that was left was to the painting was to add the shadows and more definition, which would only take a few more hours if not another day. But who knows if the patience of Ivan would last that long....they didn't if you were wondering. The door slammed open and Ivan strolled in, a smile on his face at his successful attempt to see his surprise. Trying your best to cover the painting you glared at the Russian halfheartedly.
"Ivan! I told you this was a surprise!" You scolded him, a slight scowl on your features. Ivan pouted.
"But I couldn't wait any longer. I had to see."
"I figured by the way you broke down the door." You remarked with annoyance. Ivan just laughed a bit but quickly he fell silent. He took notice of the mural you were painting on the wall across from the bed.
"You made this?...For...for me?" He asked, his eyes tearing up slightly. You looked down sheepishly.
"Yeah..I know how much you love sunflowers, so I decided to paint this for you." You said, rubbing the back of your neck. Suddenly you were engulfed in two strong, warm arms. Ivan picked you up and hugged to against his chest tightly. His head pressed tightly into your neck, the tears cascading down his cheeks and onto your skin.
"[Your Name]...Спасибо." You petted his hair gently, calming him down.
"You're welcome, Ivan. That's why this was a surprise." He put you down and rested his hands on your waist and pressed his forehead against yours. His violet eyes shining with tears.
"I ruined it..." He said, you frowned and hugged him tightly.
"Honey, you didn't ruin anything. You got excited and that's okay." You rubbed his back comfortingly. He brought a hand up and wiped away a few tears.
"It means a lot that you did this....no one else would've done this...Спасибо, подсолнух." Smiling softly he kissed your lips gently, keeping you close to him. Cupping his cheek, you deepened the kiss and then pulled away.
"Can I finish your surprise now?" You asked and he nodded with glee.
"Can I watch?" You smiled and kissed his cheek.
"Of course." You pulled away from Ivan and continued with painting the mural of sunflowers. A few hours later you completely finished it. You've seen Ivan happy before, you've seen him truly smile. But on that day, you've never seen Ivan bursting with such happiness, such glee than as of that moment. It's something you never want to forget.Спасибо- thank you
