Morning Star (continuation of the twilight saga)
Chapter 10
Renesmee Cullen
My eyelids dart open when I hear the front door open and the commotion of everyone coming in. I looked up at Jake, who had his arms around me and he was still sound asleep. I poked his side and got up. His eyelids fluttered and he looked up at me.
“They’re back. Come on, let’s go see what’s going on.” I sprinted down the stairs to see everyone sitting in the living room. Jake followed behind me pulling a shirt on over his head. I looked down and realized I was wearing Jake’s t-shirt. That was it. I spun around and sprinted back up the stairs, hoping my father didn’t see me. I grabbed the first pair of jeans I saw and pulled them on. Then, back downstairs I went. I sat next to my mom and pretty much interrogated her.
“It’s okay, Ness.” She said putting her arm around me. “We chased her up North and over to the coast to make sure she was actually leaving. She remembers nothing from the Volturi. She doesn’t know she has powers. She’s kind of clueless actually. Emmet put the dog in the backyard and gave him some food. We don’t know how she changed the dog yet, but we’re working on it.” I finally breathed out letting a long breath escape my lungs.
“What if she figures out her powers? What do we do then?” I asked.
“We’re not that far yet, dear.” Esme patted my shoulder on her way to the kitchen. My throat didn’t itch like it did when I was thirsty, it was just dry like I was actually thirsty, not for blood. I got up and walked into the kitchen. I pulled open the big cabinet door and reached down a big glass. I filled it to the top with water and chugged it. That felt a little better. The thought of Jane sent shivers through my whole body. The image of her fiery red eyes flashed through my head and I pushed it away. I felt warm arms wrap around me and engulf me into a hug. I knew it was Jake. No one else had that warmth. That calming, seductive warmth. I turned around and wrapped my arms around him.
“Don’t worry Ness. I’ll never let her hurt you. Ever.” He kissed the top of my head and I squeezed him tighter. I released Jake when my father walked through the kitchen. He didn’t look up at wither of us. He just walked through with his brows furrowed. Probably to get us to stop hugging. Of course that was why. I shrugged and turned back to Jacob.
“So do we need to do anything today?” I asked.
He laughed. “You mean besides going to school in an hour?”
I looked up at the clock on the wall. It was five in the morning. Had everything really happened in that short amount of time? “Oh, right. New set of classes today.” I shook my head and laughed. I grabbed an apple on my way out of the kitchen and shook all the thoughts of Jane out of my mind. She wasn’t going to ruin my first day of school. I made my way into my closet and threw my apple core across the room into the trash can. It clanked off the side of the trash can and thudded on the bottom. I smiled in satisfaction. What was I going to wear today? I peeled Jake’s t-shirt over my head and put it in my dresser. I walked around to the more casual section of my closet. I pulled down a vintage ‘Abbey Road’ t-shirt and pulled it over my head. The jeans I was wearing looked fine with the shirt. I found a pair of grey army boots and pulled them over a pair of colorful socks. I found a leather jacket and put it with my purse. I looked at my hair in the mirror. It was surprisingly still perfectly curled. I reached up to my neck to find my necklace and smiled.
Meghan flashed through my mind and I recalled that I never gave her a reason for my freaky phone call. I shook my head and found my phone. I fired off a text saying we found the dog but didn’t know who to give it to and that I’d talk to her about it more at school. I still had forty-five minutes until we needed to leave so I decided to practice piano a bit. My fingers danced across the keys for about half an hour, when I decided I should head downstairs. I stood up and grabbed my purse and jacket before turning to see Jake in my doorway. He was looking great, yet again, wearing a pair of light-wash jeans, work boots, and a red, plaid, flannel shirt.
“How long have you been standing there?” I laughed walking out the door with him.
“Since you started playing, it sounded beautiful.”
“Thanks.” I felt a light blush creep across my cheeks.
We climbed into Jake’s corvette and took off for our second day of school. Today all my classes were with Jake and Meghan. I had English, Science, Art and Home Ec., it should be fun. Again, as we pulled in, I felt all eyes on us. I grabbed Jake’s hand as we approached the doors to the school.

My morning classes had gone well, English and Science. Nothing too exciting. Now, it was lunch time and I walked with Jake and Meghan to the cafeteria. We got in the long line.
“Doesn’t it annoy you guys being stared at?” Meghan raised an eyebrow.
“It annoys Ness, but after a couple days you get used to it.” Jake shrugged.
“I wish they’d say something instead of just stare. That’s the problem. Gawking won’t do anything for them, at all.” I complained. Jake chuckled at me and grabbed my hand.
“They must be jealous of your boyfriend.” Jake laughed.
“That’s the point. They are.” I shoved him jokingly.
“Well, excuse me.” He smirked. “So, that Kevin kid, he’s in my shop class. I think he may like you a little too much.”
“No Jake, I’m sure he’s fine.” I didn’t want Jake making an enemy on the second day of school. He shrugged and looked around the cafeteria. We made our way through the cafeteria line and to our table. I pulled up a chair so Meghan could sit with us as well. Lunch was almost over when Kevin made his way to our table.
“Hey guys, I’m having a party tomorrow night. My parents won’t be home, so it’ll be a good time. You should stop by if you can. Text me if you want the details.” He smiled and handed me a slip of paper that had his phone number scrawled on it. I looked up at Jake and he looked annoyed, but not angry.
“Thank God I can’t read minds.” He shook his head and Edward laughed from across the table.
