Morning Star (continuation of the twilight saga)
Chapter 9 Part 1
Renesmee Cullen
“It was about four miles north. Then he took off east.” I told Carlisle.
“This means other vampires. Not just other vampires, other vampires that are experimenting. This could be dangerous.” He replied.
Jake was standing next to me. “Do you need me to do anything?” Jake asked.
“No, they’ll be able to pick up your scent quickly, and easily. Emmett, Edward, Alice, Esme, and myself will go. Renesmee, Jacob, Jasper, Bella, and Rosalie will go through our property. If anyone finds this bull dog, capture it and bring it here.” Everyone nodded and went to where they should be. Jasper and I had the east side of the woods. We were spreading out, trying to catch the scent. I stopped, I could smell the mix of vampire and musk.
“Jasper!” I called. I took off, following the scent. It turned about two miles later and I followed it, soon Jasper caught up to me.
“Wow, that scent is strong. How did we not catch it before?”
“I don’t know, we must’ve been looking in the wrong place.” I followed the scent all the way into town. We sped through town going too fast for anyone to notice us. It followed over to Baker Street.
“Wait, Jasper. I might know where this leads.”
“Where?”
“Hold on.” I took out my cell phone and dialed Meghan.
“Hello?” a muffled voice answered.
“Hi, it’s Renesmee. Did you ever figure out why all those people were at your brother’s house?”
“They said he was testing on animals, and they arrested him, why?”
“Did he have a bulldog?”
“Yea, but it ran away about a week ago.”
“What was its name?”
“Brock.”
“White and gray with black spots?”
“Yea, how’d you know.”
“I just thought I saw it but I’m not sure. Thanks Meghan, I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“Bye.” I hung up. I looked at Jasper.
“It looks like all the cops are gone now. We’re looking for this Steve guy. It’s not like they can keep him in custody if he is a vampire.” I explained.
“Maybe he’s not the vampire.” He paused. “We need to go see him. They can find the bulldog, we’re going to find out how this Steve turned this dog into a vampire.”
We took off towards the police station. We walked in.
“Can we please see Steven Ritter?” Jasper asked in a deep, professional voice.
“Relation?” the chubby cop behind the desk asked.
“Close friends.” I told him.
“That can only get you a separate room phone call, no physical contact.”
“That’ll do.”
“Right this way.” The man stumbled to his feet. He waddled through a back hall way and into a room with a wall splitting it in two. There was one window. We were waiting in the muggy room until they shoved a tall red-headed scruffy man through the door. He picked up the phone, and Jasper had his in his hand instantaneously.
“Hello Steven Ritter.” Jasper greeted.
“Do I know you?” he replied
“No.”
“Then why are you here to talk to me?”
“We happen to think you know a little more about certain things like Brock than you should.”
“Wait, is this about Katherine?”
“Your girlfriend Katherine? Yes it is. I think you know why we are here. If you give us a place to find her we will leave you alone.”
“Sutton Street you monsters should be able to catch the scent easily.”
Jasper looked at me. I knew exactly what he wanted me to do. I froze the time, everyone but Steve, Jasper, and myself.
“What just happened?” Steve asked nervously.
“Well you already know we’re monsters. We need to know how and who.”
“I thought you already knew; my girlfriend Katherine Slate. She lives on Sutton Street. How do you know who Brock is? Did you see the ad in the paper? Did you find her?”
“Your dog is a monster to. Thanks to your girlfriend.”
“What are you talking about?”
“You know exactly what we are talking about.”Jasper slammed down the phone. I unfroze time.
Steve let out a deep breath and looked confused.
“Let’s go Renesmee.”Jasper said quietly
Great….. He’s angry. No one calls me by my full name unless they’re serious or angry.
“We’ll be leaving now thank you.” Jasper said as we passed the cop and walked straight out the door.
“Wait!” Steve called from the other room. Jasper ignored him and we kept walking. As soon as we got out of the door we took off running.
We turned on to Sutton Street, the scent was insanely strong. We followed it to a tall old-style grey house with blue shutters. We didn’t knock; Jasper just busted the lock and walked in. We walked in to the backyard and there was the bull dog. His eyes were still a deep maroon. He was watching us intently as we tried to grab him.
“Jasper, he’s hungry is the problem.” I told him. Jasper disappeared for a second and came back with a bloody stake. He held it out for the dog to chase.
“Nessie, go find Ka—“
“Can I help you?” A short blonde interrupted. Her eyes looked as if they were on fire, a blaze of red. Her face was turned so we couldn’t see it. I turned to Jasper. The dog ran through the backyard gate.
“No, we won’t be needing anything from you. Nothing at all.” I could see the look in Jasper’s eyes. He was controlling our emotions, which why I was so calm. He looked at me and instantly I was breezing past trees and houses I was so calm I didn’t notice the small bulldog running in between Jasper and I. Finally Jasper let off his power and I felt my muscles tense up. He threw open the door. Alice was leaning against the wall with her eyes closed. Jasper murmured something to Carlisle.
“I don’t know, she’s been like this since we got back.” Carlisle replied.
“It’s Jane.”
“What?” Carlisle and I simultaneously asked.
