The sun gleamed through the window, shining brightly and radiantly down onto Olivia's breakfast plate as if there was something wonderful happening today.
Her mind had been elsewhere since this morning, and it was just yesterday that Don had asked her to marry him in his parents' church surrounded by his family, which she had said yes to. As much as she did not want to marry him at this moment, she couldn't turn him down in front of his family. She realised that she would have upset and embarrassed Don tremendously, and she couldn't do that. Even so, she had given Don her promise, and she never backs down on a promise.
Olivia's mind had raced since the moment she had agreed to marry him today and had tossed and turned in her sleep, which she rarely did. There was something that was bothering her about her dream and couldn't understand what it meant. It was the reason her mind had been astray for the better part of the morning. Of all days for John to enter back into her mind, it had to be the day she was going to get married. That was just like John after all; he just popped in whenever you didn't want him.
Reminiscing, she walked into Mimi's home and into the kitchen. Before she poured herself a cup of tea, something shiny caught her eye. Her head shifted to its' placement on top of the counter and picked it up, noticing it was a diamond ring. Olivia had thought it had been Mimi's ring, but when she grabbed it and examined it, it became very familiar to her.
Just then, John had yanked the ring out of her hand, placing it into his pocket, "There ya go again, takin' things that aren't yours."
She grimaced, resting a hand on her hip, "I didn't know Mimi had a ring like this."
"Well, that's because it's not Mimi's," he cleared his throat, turning away from her, "It's mine."
"Yours?" She huffed with laughter, "Where on earth did you get that?"
His eyebrows furrowed and quickly turned back to her once again, "Never you mind that. You go back to pourin' that tea of yours."
She studied his face, trying to read him, "But that's a diamond ring, John. Who's it for?"
He leaned his back against the wall and stared at her for a moment, "Well, it's not for you. It could've been, but it's not anymore."
Her head tilted to the side after hearing those words, "What do you mean it's not for me? Who's the bird?"
All John did at that moment was stare back at her. There were no more words he could say to her. He had hoped that by staring into her eyes, that would give some message. After a minute of gazing directly at her, he placed both hands into his pockets and walked away from her.
"John?" She called out, but he kept walking, "John?... John!"
"Olivia... Liv!"
A voice shouted her way, and she immediately shook her head and returned her attention to reality.
"I'm sorry, what were you saying?" The moment she glanced over at Don and his mother, she could sense he was somewhat annoyed.
"I asked if you had anybody around the area you wanted to invite," Don had been watching Olivia since she woke up and detected she was a little on edge.
A glare shot up at him, "No, because everyone I know is in England," she stared at her empty plate and sighed, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean for that to come across that way," she glimpsed at the watch on her wrist, "What time did we decide to get married?"
