NIALL

I take a deep breath as I ring the doorbell of Julia’s house. I’m shaking, and I think I’m starting to sweat even though it’s night time. This week went by so slow, all I wanted was for today to get here. I brought her sunflowers, her favorite. I just want everything to go smoothly tonight.

“Hello, you must be Niall.” A tall woman who looks like an older version of Julia says.

This must be her mom.

“Yes, nice to meet you Mrs. Cummings.” I say, extending my arm to shake her hand.

A tall, muscular man comes walking to the door behind her. This is her dad for sure. I take a deep breath.

“Good evening Mr. Cummings, I’m Niall Horan.” I say, making myself look as tall as I possibly can while giving him a firm hand shake.

“Nice to finally meet the boy my daughter has told us so much about. Come on in, Julia is still getting ready. You know women.” He says, laughing.

I give a nervous chuckle in response.

“Have a seat, would you like anything to drink while we wait?” Her mother says.

“No thank you.” I say as politely as possible.

“So tell us about yourself Niall.” His dad leans back into his chair and says to me.

Okay, here’s your chance to impress them Niall.

“Well, I’m an honor student, I’m also part of the student government. I like to play a little football.” I say, thinking of all the accomplishments I’ve had in my life.

What else could I tell them?

You sound like a splendid young man. What are your plans for the night?” Her mother says, changing the subject, I think she can tell that I’m nervous.

“Well, I was planning on going star gazing, and maybe have a nice picnic while we were there. I know Julia loves stars.”

“That’s so romantic. Sounds like a fun night you kids are going to have.” She says with a smile.

I here footsteps coming downstairs. That must be Julia. It’s felt like I’ve been sitting here for hours.

“Hey Niall, I see you met my parents. I hope they didn’t scare you away.” She says.

“Your parents are fantastic, very welcoming.” I say, smiling.

He’s a sweet boy Julia, you better behave yourself.” Her mother says to her.

Her dad stands up and walks over to us. I stand up as well.

“Okay, you kids have fun tonight. Niall, try not to have her home too late.”

“Oh she won’t be home a minute after ten o’ clock.” I say reassuringly.

“Good to hear, be safe, and call us if you need anything sweetheart.” He says as he gets the door for us.

He kisses her on the forehead and shakes my hand as we walk out.

We walk to the car and I get the door for her.

“So, where are we going tonight?” She says as I get into my side of the car.

“It’s a surprise!Oh! I almost forgot.” I reach into the back seat and grab the flowers I brought for her.
