this is a conspiracy i snatched from a shane dawson video. as you can see i've linked in a music video of hotel california and below i'm linking in shane's video so you can watch it. it has a whole bunch of other great conspiracies all about subliminal messages in songs.

the theory is that hotel california is not about a hotel but is in fact about worshipping satan. the proof is if some sections of the song are played backwards they're talking about satan. one section is -

"in the middle of the night, just to here them say"

when it's played backwards, it sounds like it's saying -

"satan hears this, he has me believe"

some sections of the song are about going to hell and meeting satan, but aren't reversed. like this part -

"and in the master's chambers
they gathered for the feast
they stab it with their steely knives
but they just can't kill the beast"

fucked up, right? well that's not all -

"relax, said the night man
we are programmed to receive
you can check out any time you like
but you can never leave"

some people think the lead singer of the band who sung this song, the eagles, sold his soul to satan, which could be why the lyrics in this song are so fucked up. this isn't uncommon - many celebrities are rumoured to have sold their souls to satan for fame. also, apparently if you zoom in on the album's cover art, you can see satan in a window (you can see proof if you watch shane's video, linked above).
