-jared can shapeshift easily, and hold it for a bit but its tiring holding anything way different and bigger, think gem shapeshifting

-he can fly with wings, as well as join alana as a mermaid with ease, having done it a lot

-most shapeshifters can change with ease and hold them for a while

-the only connection to another shapeshifter in his family is his great aunt, meaning he got both lucky any unlucky

-which means he has to use more effort to shapeshift anything bigger than himself and hold drastic changes

-he mostly uses his shapeshifting for pranks and messing with people, and evan has learned how to tell if someone talking to him is jared messing with him

-evan didnt fall for 'zoes' fake confession, he knew it was jared but he didnt know he was telling the truth about loving him
