Keys are thrown on the table and I hear the fridge open and close by me, Mom standing there with a water in her hand. She smiled at me and I returned it. It was finally Friday and the weekend starts tomorrow, so I was relaxing in the kitchen catching up on homework so I could rest easy next month.

"How was your day at school?" She asked.

"Normal as ever, just stress piling up with senior year." I sighed and set my pencil down while I sat at the island and rubbed my exhausted face.

"It'll be over soon, sweetie. How long till graduation now?" She asked.

"Just a couple more months and then I'll head over to the community college here if that's alright." I answered.

She glanced my way and sat down across from me. I stared at her with a quizzical look and raised my eyebrow slightly.

"You sure you don't wanna head straight to a four year?" She saw my expression and put her hands up to stop me. "I know your reason was the money, but we have enough, Angel."

"Mom, I already told you. They're offering a free year, possibly a second. I am not passing up that kind opportunity to get an associates free of charge." I stared at her and she sighed, nodding.

"Alright, if you change your mind let me know." She sighed. "You sure it isn't the only thing keeping you here?"

My eyes glance at her and I look at the table.

"I wouldn't blame you if you wanted to stay in the area because of the turtles. I'm just saying, this is your future, your decision to make for you and not to benefit another person that ruins your dreams." She explained.

"I know." I said. "I'm doing this all for me. If anything I'm not there yet to be on my own."

"I'm not always going to be around to protect you. Angel, you're a young woman and more than capable of taking care of herself out there in the big crazy world." She put her hand on my shoulder and smiled. "If anyone can do that, it's you. Just gotta believe you can, and you will."

"Yeah, okay." I nodded slowly.

She waved her hand dismissing it, then pulled out an envelope and my eyes widened.

"Mom, I can explain—" she cut me off.

"You don't have to." She handed me the letter of acceptance from HSU. "Like I said, we have the money if you want to go."

I stayed silent and she walked out of the room.

"Did you tell the boys about your plans after graduation? They deserve to know since they're all practically family." She asked.

"No, not yet...." I trailed off. "I haven't figured out how to tell them yet."

"Okay. I'm heading to the office, I'll be there pretty late tonight so have one of the guys drop by." She called from her room.

She walked out with her briefcase and a jacket around her. "Or should I tell Sun to come over?"

"No, it's fine. I'll be okay here by myself, Mom." I said.

She nodded slowly and stopped at the door.

"You sure?" She asked.

"Yeah, if I need them I'll call." I answered.

She nodded and headed out the door.

"I love you, stay safe, Angel." She said with a quick kiss on the forehead and out the door.

It was silent in the apartment and I glanced at the envelope, a frustrated groan escaping and I rubbed my temples, walking into my room.
