Creating The Main Character(s)

One of the hardest things to make in your book will be your main character (MC).

They have to be interesting, but can't be too interesting or they'll be a Mary Sue or Gary Stu, a perfect character with no flaws. And I know its fun to make your main character different, but too different is a problem. Of course, the cat has to be a little special to have a reason a book is being made about them, so they can't be boring either.

Usually, what I do for my MCs, I make a pros and cons list. And they have to have real cons that will actually play into the story. I try to have one con for every pro. Here's the list for Ravenpaw, my MC of Clouded Skies.

Pro: He's a good learner
Con: He's very hesitant

Pro: He's caring
Con: He cares too much (meaning he feels bad for prey)

Pro: He's smart
Con: He's too scared to speak out

That's just an example of Ravenpaw. Every good thing he has about him get pushed down because he's very shy and scared to speak his mind. Hopefully, Mossrain can kick him out of it. Maybe Ravenpaw will be as talkative as his mentor? I guess it's unknown for now.

Anyways, I can't say much about the main character, because they need to be your own! Make them how you want, but remember to give them some real flaws, not just like "oh they have some doubts that last like three seconds"
