I glanced behind Vince and Briar to check on the walkers -- and they were getting close.

Briar stepped forward and put her shoe in the fence, and put her hands on the fence also. The fence shook violently as she tried to move up the fence, but the shoes with tiny heels were not helping her at all.

"Come on man, we gotta go!" I yelled.

"I-I'm trying!" She screamed at me, only to fall down the fence back onto the ground.

7 feet

"Come on, Briar!" Vincent screamed pushing her back up.

5 feet

She dragged herself up the fence, but I could already see her future approaching, rather quickly, actually.

3 feet

Vince pushed her up slightly again, but that would mean nothing soon.

1 foot

"Shit..."

Vincent let out a horrified scream as a walker ripped into his neck. Briar glanced back and let out a scream at the sight of her husband getting eaten by a walker. She looked me into the eyes and dropped down too.

Their bodies were swarmed by the starving walkers immediately. As they ripped into their skin, the blood pooled out from their bodies. Their screams subsided as the walkers finished them off, only leaving them gurgling with their blood.

I glanced down at Aliza who was staring at the walkers eating their bodies.

"Hey, come on, we gotta go," I stated.

She turned around and followed as I led her down the alley, and down the street, where the others were waiting. I kept a cold face on, my usual look when I have to tell somebody about the death of a group member, or a loved one.

"Where are they?" Eric asked.

I gave him a death stare, "Did you not hear anything?" I snapped.

"Sorry," He mumbled.

I continued walking down the road, the others began slowly following behind me.

Guess we're walking the night away.

~ THE MORNING ~

"So where are you from anyway?" Dylan asked.

"Um, Ohio," Zaire answered.

I turned around, now walking backward, " You must have spent a long time there." I said, "Or, you just took your time traveling."

"I was in a group -- The Commissioners --  we stayed around there for a while but they turned sour and I left." He explained, " That life ain't for me."

"What the hell is a commissioner?" Dylan asked.

"Who knows, some dude came up with it, thought it was cool," Zaire explained.

I turned around and watched Nathan attempt to talk to Aliza, who had kept her distance from us since the alley.

"Nate!" I called, shaking my head as he looked back at me.

He walked back towards us, "They weren't her parents or anything, just people she found a short time ago," He said.

"Then why the hell is she being so quiet?" Dylan asked.

"Maybe because she's a little girl who just watched people being eaten alive," I stated.

I sped up my walk and stepped next to Aliza, "You're gonna like it there, tons of kids your age," I said.

"I don't wanna play with kids," She stated.

"Well, do you like to read? Cook? You like plants?" I asked.

She shrugged her shoulders in response.

"How about this," I said, "how about we both ask each other questions, 10 each, we'll go back and forth."

"Okay..." She said.

"You wanna go first?" I asked.

"Um... What is your...  favorite soda?" She asked.

" Pineapple soda," I stated.

She scrunched up her nose, "Pineapple soda? That exists?" She asked.

"Yep," I answered, "Ok, what is your favorite subject in school?" I asked.

"Math," she said, "but only when it comes out to a perfect number -- no decimals or fractions."

"Are there any animals in your community?" She asked.

"Oh yeah, pigs, cows, dogs, cats... we even have a peacock," I said.

"Do you play any instruments?" She asked.

"Let's see... drums, guitar, piano... . That's all I know kinda fluently," I said.

"Do you have any siblings?" She asked.

My heart stopped when I heard siblings, " I have a sister that's in the community, she's 17 but she acts like she's older than me." I decided against telling her about my brother, not wanting to bring the mood down.

"Favorite color?" I asked.

"Green," She answered.

"Favorite sport?" She asked.

"Jaiden!" Dylan yelled.

"What?" I asked.

He pointed forward "Look, man."

"Oh, okay. I guess we're here," I stated.

"Did you really lose track of time?" Nathan asked.

I glanced down at Aliza, " Guess I did."

I turned around to face everyone, "Welcome to Ashen!"
