Four hours have passed, and I'm just sitting here with Parker.
He won't tell me anything, he isn't talking, I'm asking things, but he doesn't answer.
Rude.
But yeah, Tony Stark collapsed. In front of me. Don't know what's wrong with him, and after Parker told me to get Bucky, I came back to see him. His head was resting on Mr. Stark's chest, and when he heard us and looked up, his eyes were red, as was his face. So I think he cried.
I think all of this has to do with that weird thing in Mr. Stark's chest that he used to have since he came back from Afghanistan. Only, he removed it years ago. When he was touring me around, I saw some kind of, like, crossword puzzle on his neck. I just didn't think much of it. I guess I should have...
It got worse and worse by the minute. At one point, his whole neck was strangled by it. He looked like he was suffocating, but stupid me didn't ask about it.
"Peter," Michelle looked over to the boy sitting next to her, with a questioning look on her face. "Why are you here?"
Peter, who had been sitting on the ground in a corner, his head resting on his knees, and arms wrapped around them, now looked up at Michelle. His face was still red, so were his eyes.
"Promise me," He stood up from the ground and sat down next to Michelle, continuing his sentence. "Promise me that you won't tell anyone?"
"I won't." Michelle brought out her pinkie, and smiled softly. Peter closed the promise with his pinkie, and gave a smile back.
"But you need to come with me."
"Also no problem." Michelle put her diary back in her bag.
Peter ran off to his room, as Michelle struggled to follow him. The rooms were next to each other, Michelle's room was on the right, and Peter's on the left, from hallway point of view. But the doors were in the opposite corners of each other, and since the rooms were quite big, they weren't close at all.
When Michelle finally reached Peter's room, she was met by a Peter without a shirt and in his boxers, trying to change in something blue/red-ish. She quickly turned around, her heart pounding at what she had just seen. She didn't know if it was just because she was terrified, or for a different reason.
"You can come in now."
As she walked in again, she saw peter, in his blue/red suit. It had black lines over it, which made it look like a web, and a spider-like logo on the chest. As she was glancing over at Peter, the thing he was trying to tell her, hit her in the face:
"You're Spider-Man?!" She almost screamed her lungs out of her chest, as her eyes filled with sparks. Peter smiled from ear to ear, as he ripped his mask of his head.
"I knew you were hiding something." Michelle took a glance at the suit again, as she heard someone. She turned around and was ready to look who it was, as she bumped into someone. She lost her balance, and fell on the ground. Again. As she looked up, she saw a now more familiar hand reaching for her, and saw a friendly smile greeting her. It was Bucky.
The smile faded, however, as he eyed the kids.
"You two might want to come with me."
Peter tensed immediately and the grin disappeared as worry crossed his features.
"Is Mr. Stark okay?" he asked, trying to keep his voice steady. He was not about to break down in front of Michelle. Not again. He had to be the man here.
His mask faltered slightly though, when he saw the look in the Sargent's eyes. He cleared his throat as he composed himself again.
"We're coming." he said, determined, as he walked out of the room. However, he was stopped by a metal arm on his chest and Bucky clearing his throat. He looked up at the man with a somewhat offended look on his face.
"Um, the suit." The older man said, eying the teenager with a somewhat playful look in his blue eyes. Peter's face turned as red as his suit as he quickly hurried back into the room.
"Right. I-I'll be out in a minute. Don't leave without me!" He shouted the last part through a closed door as the duo had walked out, Michelle trying to hide her grin.
She looked back up at the man next to her, finding him staring at seemingly nothing. He had a glassy look in his eyes as he was deep in thought. He'd never told anyone, but he actually really liked Stark. He had helped him recover somewhat using the B.A.R.F. As ridiculous as it had seemed to him at first (like for real. Barf? Dude), it turned out really helpful and Stark had been very patient and supportive. Stark was something else, Bucky had to give him that. He was hard to read at times, and honestly, he had seen him as an asshole at first. But as he got to know him a bit better and spend time with him, the shorter man had kinda grown on him.
He snapped out of his thoughts as he felt the eyes of Michelle on him. He looked at her with a smile, but it didn't reach his eyes. Michelle looked in those eyes. They looked somehow familiar, like she had seen her before. Suddenly couldn't help thinking of a puppy, so she let it drop.
She shook her head and looked away, her eyes finding Peter as he stormed out of the room.
"Let's go, Mr. Stark needs me." He said as he marched towards the car.
--
The car ride was silent, with Peter and Bucky just staring out their windows as Happy drove them to the hospital. The driver tried to look uninterested, but worry was clear on his face. Michelle realised how much Tony Stark really meant to the team. Or at least, the three of them. She hadn't really seen the reaction of the others. Black Widow, maybe. But her face had been blank, she was hard to read. She was sure the billionaire had grown on the others too, he had seemed like a nice guy. She hoped that when this was all over she could meet him for real.
They arrived at the hospital and Peter practically ripped the door from the car as he jumped out and ran towards the hospital. Michelle and Bucky ran after him, even Happy walked fast. Once he got the room number, Peter raced up the stairs, the elevator taking too long for him. He didn't stop running until he reached Tony Stark's room.
He tried. He really did. But as soon as he saw his mentor lying on the hospital bed, face almost as white as the sheets, hooked up to creepy machines, he lost it.
He stumbled back as his vision began to blur with tears. His breathing became ragged and he stumbled into the wall. He didn't hear anything besides the beating of his heart. He didn't hear the footsteps of his friends rushing towards him, or the loud panting from Happy, cursing the stairs.
He didn't feel himself sliding down to the ground, his arms falling limp beside him. He didn't notice Michelle shaking his arm, talking to him. He didn't feel the tears as they began to wet his shirt. He didn't notice the doctors running into the room with more terrifying machines.
All he could see was his mentor, his only father figure since uncle Ben died, lying on a hospital bed, as the heart monitor merely gave a flat line.
