Pete walked into his first period - math - and stood against a wall. He waited until his target walked in before following him and sitting in the seat next to him. He just wants to get this fake friendship over with before his conscience catches up with him and stops him.
"Hi," He said. It's a good thing he's extroverted. If he was like multiple people in his group, this would be impossible. Maybe that's another reason he was chosen for this job.
The younger boy looked at Pete with a subtle look of surprise.
"Uh - hello," The younger sophomore replied, pulling out his math homework.
Pete pulled his out too, quickly doing it. The other boy saw and stared.
"What?" Pete asked.
"Nothing," Mikey said, switching his attention back to his own work, "But I can tell you don't know what you're doing."
Pete raised an eyebrow, "What do you mean?"
"Those are imaginary numbers," The guy replied, sitting down.
Pete looked back down, his eyes widening.
"Crap," He groaned.
He heard the boy snicker, which surprised him. Because his laugh is actually pretty cute.
"I'm smart, I swear," Pete added, finding his laugh contagious.
The guy quietly chuckled, "I'll take your word for it."
Pete grinned softly. Maybe it won't be so hard to befriend this guy. He looked over at the guy's paper.
"You're name's Michael?" Pete asked, staring at the name on the line. Just making sure his last name matches with Gerard's.
"Yeah," The student said, "My friends call me Mikey."
"Woah, you have friends?" Pete said, acting shocked.
Luckily the student caught on to the joke and laughed, "Technically they're my brother's friends. But he does let me tag along."
Pete kept on smiling. He likes this guy. Mikey's his name, right? This shouldn't be too hard. They'll get along just fine.
"Well, Mikey, maybe I can be your first friend," Pete said, "one that doesn't know your brother."
He liked that small smile on Mikey's face. Maybe it's because he never saw it before, or maybe because he already likes him. This guy has a sense of humor.
"I'm Pete, by the way," Pete said, almost forgetting to introduce himself.
Mikey nodded, showing he's listening.
The bell rang and the teacher shut the door for class to begin.
"First things first, hand over the homework."
Pete looked down at his unfinished, and wrong, homework. He sighed as he watched his teacher collect the other students' papers.
"Here," Mikey said, handing Pete his paper.
"Seriously?" Pete asked, "You realize we just met, right?"
"Yeah, and?"
Pete couldn't believe how serious this boy was. He was really giving him the answers that easily? But their teacher was walking closer so Pete really had no time to think. He grabbed the paper and wrote the rest of the answers down.
As their teacher collected it, Pete mouthed the words "thank you." Mikey smirked softly and nodded.
Yup, Pete's going to enjoy this "friendship".
