Eighteen.
The next week flew by in a flash. My school work was picking up and I had to stay after school multiple days to finish a group project in science. On Friday, I was exhausted and ready to lie in bed for the next two days. My parents informed me they were going out for the weekend; they were going to some Dinner Theater in Washington and told me they’d be back late Sunday night or early Monday morning. With that in mind, I situated myself on the couch and decided to have a horror movie marathon, which I soon regretted.
My dark house seemed to grow bigger and more dangerous when I finished my third horror movie, and the clock was about to strike midnight, making my nerves and fears grow stronger. I tried to sleep, but kept waking up to horrific scenarios that I thought of in my head. Around one am, I decided to pick up my phone and call someone that I could talk to so I could get my mind off my fears.
I dialed Louis’s number and pressed my phone to my ear. I knew that if I called Morgan she would be furious at me for calling her at this absurd time, but Louis went to bed really late, and I knew he wouldn’t mind from our previous calls.
“Hello?” Louis answered after the third ring.
“Louis” I started “I just watched like eight horror movies and my house is really scary and-“
I was cut off my Louis chuckling on the other line.
“I’ll come get you and bring you over here” Louis says.
“No you don’t have to do that” I say, even though I’m longing to spend time with Louis after a week without him. He still hasn’t addressed the whole liking me thing, and I am starting to wonder if he changed his mind.
“But I want to. I’m lonely” I can practically hear Louis sticking out his lower lip and making a puppy dog face.
“I can just drive myself” I offer.
“I won’t have you on the road at this hour, it’s dangerous.”
“But I’ll still be on the road” I retaliate.
“But you’d be with me” Louis says, making my stomach jump.
“I could still get hurt” I bite my bottom lip.
“You think I’d let anything happen to you?”

The car ride to Louis’s was relaxing. My small overnight bag stayed at my feet, and I looked out the window at the city lights and stars. Soft music played from the radio, and I found myself wanting to stay like this longer as soon as we parked along Louis’s street.
Rain had started to fall a few minutes prior to our arrival, and now it was almost pouring. I tried to open my door, but the child lock prevented me from opening it. Louis jogged over to my side of the car and opened the door, and as soon as I got out of the vehicle his arm was snaked around my waist and I was pulled close to him, as if he was trying to protect me from the rain.
We shuffled inside Louis’s home, and I noticed furniture had been unpacked and the area seemed homier all around. However, the only thing in the living room was the TV and a single black plastic chair. I kicked off my shoes and set them by the door and Louis released me form his grip though I wish he hadn’t.
“Are you tired?” Louis asked and pushed his wet hair out of his face.
“Kind of” I shrugged.
“You’re sleeping in my bed, unless you’d prefer the floor.”
Louis shrugs off his black jacket and drops it to the floor, then brushes his hair out of his eyes once again.
