Thirty-Four.
The next day, I had to wake up bright and early for work, which was killer due to jet-lag. Louis didn’t have work until a few hours later, so I kissed his cheek before beginning to climb out of bed. Louis smiled in his sleep, and I began getting ready for work.
Work was a pain in the ass. I had minimal time to get adjusted to my office before I was thrown into work.
Luckily, all the people in the office were really nice. I met a girl named Rachel, and she showed me around the office and gave me directions to necessary places in Doncaster. Most people were taken back a bit when I told them my age. I was taken aback the first time I told them, barely believing it myself. I was only eighteen and I traveled almost across the world for a boy who I had barely known for a year, and I was now living with. I guess people do crazy things for love.
Louis told me earlier that he would pick me up from work, his work is just a block away and we got off at almost the same time; him a little later than me. I stood in the main lobby of my office building; waiting with another guy who worked there around my age who I think was named Tyler. We made a bit of small talk today during our lunch break and he seems nice. He moved from Bristol to here for college as well.
Louis was already five minutes late and I was beginning to become impatient. Tyler must have noticed me checking my watch every second because it was then that he decided to start up a conversation.
“What’s a pretty girl like you doing here this late after closing?” He asks, stepping closer to me.
“I’m waiting to be picked up” I say shyly, turning my attention back out the glass doors and into the rain, looking for any sign of Louis’s black range rover.
“You’re American, then?” He asks, noticing my accent.
I hold myself back from being sarcastic.
“Yes” I reply shortly.
“Nice. Where in America? California? New York?”
I scoff. Most people not from America think those are the only two states in the country.
“Utah, actually” I smile and try to hold back a laugh.
“You have a nice smile” He grins and steps even closer, forcing me to take a step back.
“Thanks” I dart my eyes out the doors again. Nothing.
I twist my blond hair around one finger, looking at the ground to my black ankle boots. I really should get some more clothes; I didn’t bring nearly enough.
Just as I am about to look up and check again for Louis, I hear the front doors open and footsteps walk in. I look up and am happy to see Louis’s soaking figure in my eyesight.
“Sorry I’m late” He breathes. “We got a new player in today so I had to stay later than usual.”
