Six.
Four days after Louis spent the night; it's the first day of school. I still have had no contact with Louis; he hasn't even come outside to water the flowers below his balcony. He did come knock on the front door once or twice, but I told my mom I was doing something so I wouldn't act clingy. I kind of regret that now. I am lonely.
My dad did come home the other day, and he and my mom went back over to Louis's to say hello. They asked if I wanted to come, but I denied it again simply saying that I was busy again.
I wake up on this wretched day with a large frown etched in to my face. I've never liked school. I don't see the point in learning have the things we are required to. Not to mention the people.
Oh, the people are horrible. I have never gotten bullied, I try to stay out of their way but I can't help but not like them. They act like they're better than everyone else and it annoys the crap out of me.
I climb out of my warm bed, dramatically falling to the floor and pretending to reach up in need for help. I lower my head to the ground and let out a deep breath then crawl over to my closet to get my outfit. I pick out denim light wash shorts and a black button down tank top with lace at the top. This is by far the nicest outfit I have. I stand up from the floor and inhale a sharp breath when I see myself in the mirror. However, I did not scream. That's a new one.
I get underwear and some shoes and put them all, then move to my vanity to do my makeup. Looking out the window, I can tell it's a pretty nice day outside, so the whole senor class will probably beg to have class outside. With that in mind, I put my hair in a ponytail so it won't blow away if we do go outside.
The seniors have every class together, and the whole school has lunch together. Morgan and I have the privilege of eating outside do to our 'good community service' which really was just when I saw a piece of trash on the ground and threw it away when the principal was watching and got to have me and a friend eat outside whenever we want.
When I finish getting myself ready, I go down stairs to eat a bit on breakfast and pack my backpack. My mom is not awake yet, but she usually doesn't wake up until the last minute. I push my plastic shopping bag of school supplies in my plain black backpack and try my best to zip it up. Once that is finished, I run back upstairs and brush my teeth, then run back down and lay on the couch, waiting for my mom to wake up.
I stare at the clock on the wall, watching as every second passes. I am about to fall back asleep when I hear a knock on the front door. I furrow my eyebrows but go to answer the door anyway. There standing at the door is Louis, who is wearing a black beanie that is taming his disheveled brown hair. He is wearing loose black sweatpants with a purple sweater.
"Ready to go?" He asks.
"What are you doing here?" I raise an eyebrow.
"I told you I would take you and pick you up from school, didn't I?"
"Oh!" I slap my palm to my forehead, and then try to brush the red spot that surely appeared with my hand.
I grab my backpack from the floor and put it on. "Yeah I'm ready."
I follow Louis out the front door and to his car parked in the driveway. He opens the passenger door for me and I duck in, trying my best not to hit my head.
How could I not have remembered Louis was taking me to school? I literally think about him all the time yet I forgot he was taking me to school. I need to try not to be clingy. That's going to be hard but I'll manage. The worst that could happen is for my head to pop off like the top off of a soda cannon.
Louis enters the car on the other side and puts his key in the ignition.
"Adrianne" Louis says.
"Addie" I correct him.
"Addie" Louis sighs. "Why were you avoiding me?"
"I wasn't avoiding you" I lie.
"Yes you were."
Louis pulls out of the driveway and starts the car down the street. I'm lucky the car ride is short; I don't think it's good for me to have a serious chat this soon before school, especially on the first day.
"Maybe I was" I admit.
"Why?" Louis turns left. He's obviously been driving, he already knows the directions.
"I don't want to be clingy."
"I don't think you're clingy, I want to see more of you, actually."
"Really?" My heart swarms. Louis should not be doing this this early in the morning. I look down at my lap and pick at my fingernails so Louis won't see my face turn beet red.
"Really" Louis parks in front of my school and I wrap my hand around the door handle.
"Well look at that, I'm at school. Shucks" I quickly say, my natural awkwardness in new situations shining through. "I'll see you after school I gue-" I am cut off by Louis cupping my face and his lips landing on mine.
My hand turns limp and I release the handle. My hand slides down the inside of the passenger door and my eyes fall shut as I concentrate on the feel of Louis's lips. I need to savor this moment if I want to get through the school day. Louis's lips are thin but very, very good at kissing. They move perfectly in sync with mine and are so damn soft. His hands cupping my face keep my secure, his thumb just below the bottom of my eye. All too soon, he pulls away.
"I'll see you at two" he says.
Dazed, I nod and open the passenger door and step out on to the concrete. I shut the door and hear Louis drive away, my mind still a daze. My mind and my body feel detached, almost a dichotomy as I walk up the five steps to my school just as the bell rings for first period.
