Back at Asgard

Thor made his way towards the gatekeeper. He needed to know how his younger brother was doing. Was he alright? Was he up to no good? Surely not, right? Heimdall would've said something.

Right?

He made his way into the golden room, Heimdall standing in the middle, hands on his golden sword. "My prince," Heimdall greeted, bowing, his yellow eyes seeing all.

"Heimdall, how fare my brother?" Thor asked, making a stop in front of the gatekeeper.

"Something shadows him." Heimdall replied mysteriously.

"Is he up to his mischief?" Thor asked quickly.

"No, someone else is shadowing him."

"I understand not." Thor furrowed his eyebrows.

"Nor I. I fear for him. He has made such friends who care for him. One very special. He cares for her greatly."

"Wait, her? And why fear?"

"My prince, something looms over them all. Something that craves death, but I cannot see. I wish I had more to tell. But I do not. I fear for him."

. . .

Run.

Run.

Run.

That's all he had to do. Just run and don't stop.

Loki ran so hard his he could hear his heart pounding. He saw shadows chasing him. He knew these shadows. Thanos didn't just rule Chitauri, no. He also ruled... well he didn't know what they were called other than shadow creatures or just shadows. All he has to do is run. Just keep running!

Run.

Run.

Run.

He was running so fast until he tripped over a branch and fell face first. His vision blurred for a moment but he got back up.

And what he saw...

He saw two glowing eyes, piercing him all over, burning his very veins.

Thanos.

. . .

Loki shot up, again, panting and trying to come back to reality. Sweat ran down his face and the back of his neck. He's safe now. He's okay.

He plopped back down breathing hard. That didn't even happen. Now Thanos is just putting images in his head.

Dammit!

He knew he wasn't going to get any sleep tonight. He sat up and swung his legs over the bed. He sat there for a moment before getting up and heading downstairs for something to eat. He didn't know any of the human foods, but it couldn't hurt to try.

He made it to the kitchen and opened the fridge. He looked around at all the choices of food to find a left over pizza box from earlier. He took it out and sat at the table. He opened the box and took one piece eating it nearly in three bites. He closed the box back up and put it in the fridge and headed towards the living room.

He went to the couch and sat there looking out the window onto the city. He destroyed it. He could still see some places needing to be rebuilt. That destruction was his fault. There is no way to repay or fix anything he did. He doesn't even deserve it.

"Couldn't sleep?"

He jumped at the voice and whipped around to see Steve standing by the doorway.

"Not really." Loki replied, looking back towards the city.

Steve made his way to sit next to Loki. "What's on your mind?"

"Nothing, there just dreams."

Steve hesitated before saying, "Wanna talk about it?"

"No. Why would you care anyways? I'm not worth your time or worry so just go back to bed." Loki said, still looking out the window.

Steve swallowed. He usually is good at this. But this is Loki we're talking about. He won't listen.

"You've somehow got this idea in your head that we all hate you."

"Well, you do."

"No. We don't."

"How many?" Loki choked out.

Steve was puzzled. "What?"

"How many people died all those months ago? How many?" Loki looked at his hands. "Those people's blood are on my hands. How many?"

Steve hesitated. "About 260 people."

Loki sighed in defeat. "I'm so sorry..." He whispered to himself.

Steve didn't know what to do.

Wait!

Is that a tear!?

"Loki?"

"I killed so many people, including Astryd's parents. Maybe I should I turn myself in to Thanos." Loki mumbled, a shudder running through him.

"No, Loki, listen. I forgive you. I do. A couple months ago, I wouldn't have wanted you dead. I don't want you dead now. I figured you need punishment. You're on punishment now. Look at you, you're remorseful, and learning humility. Wasn't that Odin's plan?"

Loki looked up at Steve. He was right, wasn't he? Well damn. Odin is smart after all. "Yea, I guess you're right."

"Now I don't know about Agents Barton and Ramonav but, the rest of us forgive you."

"What about Bruce? I can see it in his eyes. He believes me not. He thinks I'm up to no good. My mischief. I'm not. I'm not!

"I believe you. Okay, it's just... gonna take some gettin' used to. Alright? You'll be alright. We'll all be alright. I promise you, we won't let Thanos get you." Steve layed a hand on Loki's shoulder. "Alright?" Steve smiled. And it wasn't forced.

Loki smiled too. "Alright."
