Months passed and all is set for the new season of UAAP. Of course, Ricci is on the line up for the team. During those practices na lagi akong nanonood, which I was relieved that Coach Ayo allowed me to, Ricci improved his game even his signature Euro step. I know he's ready for the game and too focused but that doesn't mean na nakalimutan na niya ako. He's always calling me at night just to check on me. Somehow, I really felt loved all over again. We have so little time to enjoy but its the least that matters. Hindi ako naghahangad na sa akin niya ituon ang buong oras niya sa akin dahil bago ako, basketball was his first love not me.
La Salle's first opponent is FEU and I must admit that the crowd was very energetic. The whole crowd was a mixture of yellow and green, symbolizing their universities color. It is very amusing to witness this kind of game dahil hindi naman ako nahilih sa mga ganito. Basketball isn't my thing, sa volleyball lang at music ako mas nakatutok.
Although Ricci wanted me to be near him, I refused. Baka maka-agaw pa ako ng atensyon sa mga manonood at ayoko namang mangyari iyon. Practices pa nga lang, pinagtitinginan na ako ng ibang mga estudyante, what more ngayong game day nila? I'll just watch him from afar. Just like any other supporters, I wore a simple green shirt that I bought from the official merchandise of UAAP. Siguro naman ay hindi ako mahahanap ni Ricci dahil malayo na ako sa kanya.
Ten minutes before the game, I saw Ricci stood up from his seat and scanned the crowd. At dahil alam kong medyo malayo na ako sa kanya, I can still feel that he's looking for someone. Brent stood up too and whispered something to him and automatically gazed his eyes directly on my place. He look at me straight from the eye and cocked his boyish smile.
Loud cheers were thrown from the crowd near me as they spotted Ricci looked at this way.
"Girl, tinignan ako ni Ricci! I can't breathe!" A girl from my left side squirmed.
"Gaga, SDTG lang ang peg?" Another girl talked loudly.
"Ah basta! Tumingin siya sa pwesto natin!" Another voice cracked on my side. I was curious so I glanced at them knowing that they also glanced at my side. I smiled at them and they also smiled. I sighed as the three girls continued to talk and gushed about their crushes, I think pero puro Ricci, Kib at Prince lang naririnig ko. Talaga nga palang kilala sila ng lahat.
The referee started to whistle which means the game will start any second now. Manghang-mangha ako sa aking napapanood. Ibang-iba kasi kapag nasa practice game sila. Even if I am a bit far, the energy and will to win the game is evident on their faces. The ball was on the FEU's side and they are now attacking and making their points. Sa nakikita ko ngayon, ibang Ricci din ang naglalaro. My eyes were fixated from him, never wanting to miss any second of his playing game.
The referee whistled for a time-out and I looked at the score. La Salle's on top leaving the other team with an 8-point lead. Wow. They really are making a scene here dahil hindi na magkamayaw ang sigaw ng mga manonood. We're already on the fourth quarter kaya naman hindi na talaga sila mapatigil. And I was just watching their every move. Ben was dribbling the ball then passed it to Ricci. He immediately held it and took a three-point shoot. Kahit na alanganin ay pasok pa rin ang bola, at dahil na rin sa excitement napatayo ako sa aking kinauupuan.
The intense game goes on and ended 90-95, in favor of DLSU Green Archers. While everyone was clapping and shouting on their seats, Ricci, who was sitting on the bench turned around and looked at me directly. Tumayo siya at nginitian ako. He put his hand on his ears, signalling that he will call me later and I nodded.
"Sino bang tinitignan ni Ricci dito?" Tanong ng isang manonood.
"Dunno. Basta malapit lang satin yan." Sagot naman ng isa.
"Hindi kaya siya?" Usisa naman ng isa na mas malapit sa akin.
Bago pa magtaka ang ibang mga manonood, kinuha ko na ang aking gamit at akmang lalabas na nang may makasalubong ako sa aisle.
"Oh, look who's here." Ani ng isang boses lalaki, ah no, babae pala sa aking likuran.
Sa lakas ng pagkakasabi nito ay rinig na ng mga babaeng kanina pa nag-uusap sa kabilang tabi.
Lumingon ako sa banda ni Gia at nginitian lamang siya. Ano na naman kaya ang gagawin niya?
"Supportive girlfriend, eh?" Panunuya niya.
"I am supporting OUR school, hindi ba pwede?" I asked.
"Oh cmon, Maddy! Huwag nang pabebe, si Ricci lang naman sinusuportahan mo eh."
Hindi kaagad ako nakasagot, nag-isip muna ng maisasagot.
"I won't stop you from saying anything that you like. I'm going and I don't have time for your craps, Dionisio." As soon as I spat those words I immediately walked to thw exit door. Hindi ko na rin hinintay ang kanyang reaksyon.
My phone beeped and it showed Ricci's face. I answer the call and he eventually talked.
"Hey! We won!" Masayang sabi niya.
"I know. Still there?" I asked.
"Yeah. We are still packing our things. Would you wait for me?"
"Yeah? Punta na lang muna ako sa pinakamalapit na fast food chain dito. I am a bit hungry."
He sighed on the other line, and kept silent for a moment.
"Alright. Text me later when you get there and I'll fetch you. Ayos ba?"
I could almost imagined Ricci pouting his lips again. I chuckled at the thought and Ricci yelled at me.
"Hey! I know what you're thinking, love."
"Really?" I teased him and chuckled again.
"Of course! Sa tunog ng tawa mo, may naimagine ka na naman."
"Woah! How did you know that?" Nagkunwari akong gulat sa kanyang sinabi.
"I know you too well, Maddy." He sounded confidently kaya naman hindi na ako umangal pa.
"Fine, I'm sorry. I'm just happy for you. Congratulations, love!"
"Thanks, Maddy. I love you." The last three words came as a whisper. Hindi niya nilakasan dahil alam niyang maraming makakarinig at tutuksuhin na naman siya ng mga team mates niya.
I laughed at him, "I love you, too."
"See you later!" Para naman siyang ginanahan sa kanyang pananalita.
"Sige na, baba ko na para makapunta na ako."
"Okay. Take care of yourself, Maddy."
"Oo na po." I answered before tapping the end button.
