I was on my way to surprise my boyfriend, he worked all the time and I couldn't stand being away from him. He was working more than usual lately.
"Hey Y/N, will you tell Darry I'm gonna be a little late coming home?" His younger brother Pony asked. Pony was always getting into it with Darry. I hated when they fought, I loved them both to death.
"Sure, but don't be to late. You know how Darry gets when you come home at unusual times." I cautioned. He nodded and walked out the door. "Hey Pony! Why don't you bring a jacket?" I yelled after him. Pony was always forgetting things like that, but he would never forget his books and weeds.
"Your right! What would I do without you. I'm so happy Darry found a woman like you!" He smiled. I blushed, Pony and I have always gotten along, same with Soda. The rest of the gang liked me, I kept Darry from going crazy, they said.
"You have a good time now." I messed up his greased hair and gave him a light shove out the door. He laughed and pulled a comb out of his pocket. He never forgot that either!
"I better go, Darry's getting on lunch break now. Gonna run him some DQ." I said to Soda, who was stuffing his face with cake. He nodded and handed me a plate of chocolate cake.
"Take this! Tell Darry to take it easy too." He said handing me the piece of cake. I waved and walked out the door.
It took me about 10 minutes to get to where Darry was working. I hopped out of the car, arms full of food.
"Let me help you there pretty lady!" Darry easily grabbed two bags and the piece of cake. I sighed.
"Ah man, I wanted to surprise you!" I grabbed the drinks from the front seat of my car. He laughed and opened the door to the car.
"You really think Soda can keep his mouth shut for more than 3 hours? He told me this morning." He chuckled, "that's why I took the rest of the day off to do whatever you like!" I almost choked on my Pepsi, Darry taking off work??
"Really?!" I asked, almost expecting it to be a joke. He grabbed the food and put it in the backseat.
"Of course! I have to make time for one of the most important things in my life!" He opened the passenger seat door and waited for me to get in. Then we slid across the hood to the drivers side. He was so cute, silly, but cute.
"So, where are we going?" I wondered, he smirked and shook his head.
"That, my darling, I cannot tell you." He started the car then grabbed my hand. We rode for awhile until we pulled into a empty lot.
"Where are we?" I looked around, there was a picnic table decorated with candles and flowers. I gasped, the ground had rose petals everywhere and Darry, oh Darry, he was on one knee. I started to cry as Darry took a deep breath.
"Y/N, I've loved you for a long time." He said tearing up "I love everything about you. From your long beautiful hair that always smells of sweet strawberries, to your violet painted toenails." He continued "I have to apologize when I told you that Soda had told me about you surprising me today, only this morning. I've known for a few days now. And I realized it would be the perfect time to ask you this very important question." He took another deep breath and gazed at me with sparkling eyes, "(Your full name) Would you make me the happiest man alive, and marry me?" He asked with tears running down his soft cheeks.
I couldn't breath, in between sobs I tried to catch my breathe. "Yes!!! Yes!!! Yassssss!!" I jumped into his strong arms. I've never felt safer. He studied my face for a few seconds then passionately put his lips on mine.
I heard cheers from behind and realized the whole gang was behind us. I laughed and skipped over to them.
"Did you boys know about this too?!" I smiled. Pony and Soda hugged me while the rest of the gang yelled cheers of congratulations. Darry walked over and put his hands on my waist.
"Boys, when you start noticing girls, I want all of you to find a girl like Y/N, you hear?" He smiled, tears of joy in his eyes.
"Well, I guess I'll be Y/N Curtis!" I exclaimed. The boys cheered and Pony welcomed me to the Curtis family.
I guess that the surprise was really on me! It was way better than I could ever have planned!
