"I miss him so much!" I said to my best friend Ponyboy. I couldn't help but stare out the window hoping to catch a glimpse of Johnny coming home. He was in the hospital, had been there for a few days. Him and Pony had run away to this church, that caught on fire. There were little kids inside, and being the kind hearted people they were, They ran inside to save them. Pony had made it out, but Johnny got burned pretty bad.
"Come on Y/N, let's go see him. I know it's hurting you to be away when he needs you." Pony got up and walked to the door. "Let's take Gone With The Wind too. I'm sure he wants to finish it." He picked up the book and tossed it to me. I almost ran out the door. I hadn't seen him in 3 hours. I know it doesn't sound like a lot, but Johnny is the love of my life and I can't bare to leave his side when he's in pain. When his old man would beat him up, I would always be with him and try and sooth the pain. The rest of the gang said he was the "pet" or the little dark and weak puppy. But I thought he was one of the strongest of us.
"We're back to see Johnny Cade." I said impatiently. The doc sighed and shook his head.
"I'm sorry, but visiting hours are over." He looked at the clock. I don't know what came over me. But in that moment, every emotion I had felt since I first heard Johnny was in the hospital had came up.
"You listen here doc!" I cried "Johnny is not going to be in that room alone. I won't allow him the suffer without me! I deserve the pain! Me! Now let us in or I'll find my way in another way. Either way I'm going to be with my love!" I sobbed. Pony gasped and pulled me into a hug, starting to cry too. The doctor was in shock, he looked around making sure there was no passing nurses then walked closer to us.
"Go ahead, stay as long as you'd like." He whispered. Then walked away quickly. I ran as fast as I could down the hallway to Johnny's room.
"Baby!" I ran over to him and sat in the chair beside him.
"Hey Y/N" He said " I have some great news." He said sounding a little stronger. This gave me some hope that he would recover.
"What is it?!" I asked as I gently brushed my fingers through his hair.
"The doc said I'll be able to walk again. If I can just recover from these burns." He stopped and took a deep breath "I'll have scars. But I will live and be able to walk." He said with hope in his soft voice. I started to cry from joy. He was going to recover, I know it!
"Baby! I'm so happy. We can be together for the rest of our lives!" I said happily. Pony was crying with joy as he got up and hugged me.
"Johnny, your gonna recover. Your gonna." Pony encouraged him.
"I know. As long as I have Y/N with me. I'll be just fine." He looked up and smiled at me. I smiled back with tears in my eyes. "I love you darling." He whispered. I continued brushing his soft hair with my hands.
"I love you too JohnnyCake." I whispered back.
About 4 weeks later, Johnny was stronger than ever. He was able to walk, still very sore though. I was with him for most of the time he was in the hospital. I only went home when the rest of the gang pleaded me to go eat something and rest for a while. Johnny's burns slowly went away and his back and neck started to heal. As he said, there was scars on his back. But I didn't love him any less. Like I said, he was one of the strongest people I've ever met. Even if other people didn't see it.
One day while I was resting at the Curtis house I saw Johnny walking down the street with Pony and Dally. He looked so happy, a sparkle in his eyes. I ran as fast as I could to him and kissed him.
"I did it baby! I lived!" He said as we hugged for what seemed like an eternity.
"Oh JohnnyCake, I knew you would!" I kissed his cheek. He smiled and our eyes met.
"I couldn't leave you here. I couldn't die without you. Baby, I want to be with you. Forever." He smiled. I kissed him, I kissed him like he was oxygen and I was drowning. I loved him, and I was ready for many more years of loving him.💛💛
